Hi Cynthia
thanks as ever for your considered comment on my poem - in the poem i switched the light off to let the room take shape - though the immediate perceptual would tell the read otherwise
curious to know how you would do the equal line thing that you mention in your comment?

Try copy and paste the link into address bar. It should take you to a youtube clip of Lawrence Ferlinghetti reading "The World is a Beautiful Place" He has a more rambling approach to poetry. He is 90 this year and has certainly loved life.

Yeah, I saw Control. It's quite hard to believe that someone so talented would be driven to such extremes. Thanks for your comment.

Thank you for your comments, and especially thank you to Ernesto Sarazale for the generosity of his introduction.
Oh, LS Lowry. Badly over-rated, I'm afraid.

It's a great poem with rich language and tone and such a great concept. I can't help wondering what would happen if one of Lowry's matchstick men came to call though!

Always a good sign when the title is twice as long as the work itself?

I meant to ask before: this is the Persephone split between the upperworld and the underworld, yes?, ie. summer and winter in Greek mythology? I thought she was moved by pity rather than lust, unless I'm acquainted only with juvenile versions of said myth. I must check.

Cheers for your remarks, Isobel. Much obliged. I have been off the site for a while now but am happy to be back. I like the 'Update Gigs' feature that is now up. I will be posting some more poetry over the next few weeks on different themes, so look out for that.
See you soon,
Alain

Good Morning Isobel
It's so difficult at times to write of 'Love' in a joyous way... usually the venom of love has its way with my pen and restless nights...
Thank you again for such an indepth critique of my poem.

Will eventually get this right: though 'specualting' may be OK among consenting adults in private, I think SPECULATING might be more appropriate for this forum. It's still earyl mroning, raelly....

Marvellous poem; read with such conviction and expression - thanks. We chaps always have to be careful with the Rubens simile, don't we? And I've sometimes specualted about a Strictly Come Literary History sort of programme - obviously DHL could kick it off!

Hi, Isobel, thanks for commenting on Perfect, and Jenny!! However, this poem is a romance, not about motherhood. Love, with an image of an eclipse of the sun as I know of nothing else which would eclipse it. I love your site as you know and the red shoes. best Janexx

Hi Rodney... Thought 'prowl' was a bit predictable. Liked the bouncers and their small brutality kicks and the hummingbird cigarettes. Loved the reference to Natasha, repeated at the end but it seems there is something wrong with the flow and the repetition af away? Taken as a whole it captured the seady sinsiter night and the journey home where you have to occassionally look over your shoulder. Great stuff. Win

Thanks for your comment Dave. I agree, the situation's not quite as bad as in some countries. However I am disquieted when we or the Americans use phrases such as '...for god and country...';
I think the relationship between the (Christian) church, the political establishment, and the arms manufacturers and the military is not a healthy one.

I'm afraid 'Fortune' was a red herring, in as much as it was a Laxton's Fortune apple tree.
But sure, yew got the Norfolk connection; whenever 'you' is written in local dialect it's written thus. Well spotted though ;)
It was an attempt the reflect the rather unique contradictions of an old nofolk man (many of them possess it) very much in tune with the simple life, simply seen and enjoyed.
Many thanks.

I commented on this when we were going through the Ernesto experience, but I just wanted to reiterate that I think this poem is stunning, and worthy of a POTM slot. A pity that this one isn't emblazoned on the front sheet to show everyone how a love poem should be written.
The story builds beautifully
