This needed to be said. And the time factor adds to the disclosure. Your (intended)use of cliche has it's place here, adding to the weary abuse he and his mother and family suffered. And I hope you don't mind my adding a 3rd victim to this episode, Stefan's mother who died shortly later.
Well written Andy.

Glad you liked the Northern Soul poem. Yes I've seen the recent docus which obviously helped me a lot. I used to dance to Tamla and stuff at the Top Ranks suite in Reading in the 60s when I was 14/15, but like you knew nothing about hat northern scene. There's quite a lot in my own ubringing that helps me identify with it. DOing a crap job all week and then getting away for the weekend.

I like this a lot, David, particularly "Hallucogenics /and hopeless solos / warped the walls in bedsits / of never-never-land,/ but lads in bags and polo shirts / danced all night till morning." A phenomenon I didn't have a clue about until years later. Did you see the recent BBC4 documentary? Part of Wigan's heritage, almost as much as the pier.

I like this one, the idea that it is thought - thought and memory - that you meet on the field puts the whole thing in the mind, which is right, I think. And I'm also aware in any battle Odin sometimes has the better man fall to more quickly fill his shield-tiled hall. good stuff.

This is great Daniel, I was chuckling every time I read 'Where Donkeys poo and seagulls screech'. my favourite line is 'Grandma's at Bingo every night
her handbag with her like a leech.' Nice one

Hi Shirley-Anne.
This is a wonderfully presented poetic description
of one of the many monstrous levels to which mankind is capable of sinking. I hope the confidence lacking Cretins wearing these products, take notice.
See you at the Ringers on Sunday?

Well Ian, each line runs into the next, so 'this' isn't in isolation if you know what I mean. Although, have to say, that is the one word in the whole lot that I do think is weak, so nice one for spotting :)

Cheers for the feedback, Cynthia. It's good and enriching to recognise the achievements of poets around the world, I think, and to remind ourselves of the conditions that many of them have to work under.

great stuff Laura - I like the minimalist approach - a lot said with very little - and no spare, leftover words - 'cracking' (the only minor bit I'm not sure about is the line after 'running' - 'this' just seems a bit vague when all the rest is so pin point and threatening - not sure if there's an alternative that brings out that dormant threat more (?) but as I say, that's a very minor quibble :-)

Isobel, I have missed your work so much. And especially the ones that relate directly to your kids. They just scintillate with the common experiences of us all, brilliantly interpreted through your own skill. This comment is downright OTT, but I don't care.
Dig Fancine's French! It looks impeccable. (Not surprisingly, of course, and only as near as I can remember.)

I once got locked in a supermarket overnight, took all my strength not to start necking all the expensive booze and smoking all the ciggies, I did end up exiting through one of the fire doors though setting the alarms off pmsl needless to say the manager wasn't happy the next day :)

I wrote one about it all and still perform it to this day. Mine has a line about faking dementia in it too :)
I plan to steal as much as possible and drink expensive booze from the tesco shelves, blame it on my dementia ;)

Pauline, you're working your finest in these lines - countless original expressions evocative of time and place, with cutting precision. And, I think, posturing 'what exactly is the definition of "society" and "work"?' I find that your poems always have an agenda, outright, or thinly disguised.
I'm sure glad that I'm backtracking a bit. Check out 'lacquered'; I'm pretty sure it has a 'c' - but could be wrong. Or maybe either is acceptable.
