Kicking and Screaming

The clowns and the madmen are led away,

Kicking and screaming, kicking and screaming.

The brand-new Bentley is brought out to play,

Factory-gleaming, factory gleaming.

The streets are swept free of the dust and muck,

Spit-clean and polished, spit-clean and polished;

Around lies the city’s ardour and luck,

Smashed and abolished, smashed and abolished.

As simpering rules...

Nineteen Eighty-Four

‘A truth denied is truth decried’,

I once heard some wise person say.

But what if truth is optional,

Or fuzzy-edged or ill-defined?

(The point seems rather underlined).

Then how differs fact from fiction

On this or any given day?

There is no future and no past;

It’s just a matter of control.

What has happened and will happen

Depend upon our latest whim

Socially Perfect

I love my perfect life
With my perfect kids and my perfect wife
And all those perfect times we’ve had
Being the perfect mum and perfect dad

And our perfect home where perfect friends
Adapt perfectly to every trend
Or those perfect days spent at the beach
Who says perfection’s out of reach?

We have perfect times when we go out
With perfect people round about
As our perfect laughter fi...

Election Campaign

We went to a ball, but they said we could not dance.

We joined a choir, but they said we could not sing.

We ordered a beer, but they said we could not drink.

We shared an embrace, but they said we could not love.

We went to the bathroom, but they said we could not wash.

We sat in a restaurant, but they said we could not eat.

We took out our pens, but they said we could not write.

Brownland

There's a sickly sense of unease

Background anxiety in the air

Something wrong with the planet

Like a hole getting ready to tear

Science is tomorrow's igorance

We grew too big for our boots

We've dug a hole in the future, its

Too late to go back to our roots

Greenland's ice seemed a fixture

Taken for granted, always there

Now its melting, dying, dwindling

Army of pacifists

She knew he was psycho

It takes two to tango.

she was just as guilty.

She was just as guilty.

He preyed on her because he saw her weaknesses

the holes through her defense

he was gonna score

he was gonna score !

They are not what they seem.

The critters crawling in their teeth

Hiding behind sheep

hiding behind sheep.

Wide Is The Gate And Broad Is The Road

Wide Is The Gate And Broad Is The Road

A sky bleached like old bones
dug from damp earth on an autumn morning.

The pale sun spits on car roofs in a Northern town
where colours hide behind a sheen of grey.

Tram tracks, like silver trails of slugs,
pacing the slowly walking midnight man.

Something ancient and horrid has left a double-mustard
trail of crumbs for him to follow, but nev...
