sound is deadened

so that every conversation

crawls like a gentle breeze

through cotton wool.

 

Beggars are kings,

politicians pariahs,

policemen thieves,

priests parasites.

Suzie is a victim.

host sinners, saints and surrogates

sneering into bibles

left to them
