The Legend of the Gawanjee
In the ancients days,
of the 1980’s.
Stories flew
around the middle school.
About a beast in the woods,
called the Gawanjee.
It came from the Pit,
of an old coal mine.
It was part lizard-man,
and a part Bigfoot.
It slept in the warmth,
of an old gob pile.
And in the winter,
it could be seen frozen.
In the ice,
of the deep, dark lakes.
Kids would tell,

The Monster came out of the deep dark cave.
It ate everyone but me.
The following day the Monster once again came out of the deep dark cave.
It ate everyone but me.
The next day the Monster emerged from the deep dark cave.
It ate everyone but me.

There in the corner of the black beneath my bed

The Monster
She was born from a parent
who left her at a young age
to be raised by a monster.
This monster created
such fear and depression
for this poor young girl.
The monster she feared
was there everyday waiting
for when she got home
or for when she woke.
The monster she didn't love
broken her down far too much
that even a thought of it
or the thought of being home
would make her panic.

The Monster in me
Hate to be the monster they see
when they look at me through my eyes
and hate to be the daughter
that they disgrace with heart.
Because, I am nothing but a mistake,
I am as worthless as the dirt we walk on,
