Thanks John. That is a big sacrifice - muscle memory is so important . When I try to learn pre written music it is as it were through the training of the hands rather than a visualisation of the dots. It's a blessing that keeps the mind active. Thanks for whiling away your time !

Hi Michael,
Glad you liked the poem. Might be a moment to push my story collection The Private Unmentionable Gargoyle which I haven't made much effort to publicise. Contains a lot of 'Bohemian Lifestyle' stuff from back in the 80s. You can see an image of the cover in the photo gallery section of my page here (top right). It's disappeared from Amazon perhaps because I haven't bought anything for six months (?). So to read the reviews you have to go to www.publishandprint.co.uk then click on Authors then scroll down list on the right until you find Hubert Tsarko - the pen name I use for stuff published with P&P. I have three copies at home to sell direct also.
Cheers John S

Yes Ray. A sort of muscle memory. Then arthritis got in the way. Cramped the fingers, cramped the style. So, music to while away the time. Incidentally, the only surviving use of the verb while, meaning “to spend time.”

Thanks Hannah. I'm glad you identified with the sentiment!.
Hi Graham. This could apply to most instruments of course. It's the piano for me and I do try to be disciplined but try improvisation too. I'm lucky my fingers still work ok.
Good analogy John. Most musos I know are certainly addicted but I like to diversify and not be a slave to it. Thanks for liking the poem.
Don, music is an international language and plenty of variety too. Glad you liked it.
Hi Jennifer. Due to lockdown I've lost my live work so I have to self amuse! Still works and a piano is self sufficient.
Mark. The drive to go pro was strong for.me in the band world so had to learn fast but it sticks with you. Much more freedom being amateur without being dictated to on each occasion. Another story though! Thanks...
Ray.

I'm just looking you up Michael after your comment on my blog. I do like the feel and tone of this one a lot. It is seemingly flippant yet conceals some real distinctive thought! I like the light hearted observations, shaking off any indulgence emotionally.

Thanks Michael for your warming words, and coming late to this poem. It's nice to know readers are looking back at one's work! Poetry has to be fresh in the mind and re reading this does seem to bring comfort in the present situation. I try to be philosophical, and back in the day, death was more often faced by families, not having the same backups we have today and the expectations of that service. I'm glad you liked it...

Thanks for the 'likes' and for the kind comments Hannah and Jennifer. I don't think I've ever written a cat poem before and I never thought I would - but when they become a part of your life, particularly in these dark times, you provide and they provide comfort. Love this little ginger visitor ?

Thanks Jeff. Yes we do live in strange times at the moment when if you see a dozen cars at the traffic lights you might think that's busy!
Thankfully I am finding plenty to keep me occupied. Hope you are O.K.

A fitting tribute Jeff. A superb poem mate
It is my hope that in the rush to 'get back to normal' whatever that might feel like that we don't lose sight of what these people have given of themselves and in fact have always done but have gone unnoticed. My hope is that we are all shaken up by this and rethink the way we act towards each other. Sorry went on a bit there
Nice one Jeff

Hi Keith
An enjoyable and fascinating journey that brilliantly describes the way the brain has dissected the traditional landscape of youth and upbringing and revealed the raw emotion of the true self by the final stanza in Cubist form.
Hugely enjoyable

I love seeing old photos of my past relatives when they were young. It came as a surprise to me when I realized their world had color too even though the photos did not.
The gathering shadow at the end... I really like the tone it sets. What a beautiful poem. BTW your family seem to face death nobly...mine just scream and yell a lot.

Wow It sounds like you lived a truly bohemian existence for awhile there. It reminds me of "On the Road' which I love......and the last stanza is so cool.."reassure ourselves continuously"...how that alone would keep you going through the lean days...

Hi Martin
Very poignant mate, quite eerie as well - very well written - I've just posted a tribute to NHS and key workers if you want to read that.
I'm just catching up as you can tell! As it's over a month since I wrote Under Attack and you commented (thanks), things haven't changed much, in that it all seems a bit bizarre although shopping is okay now! Who knows where the end is though, folk getting restless but the death toll rocketing, so sad ? Hope you're okay cheers Jeff

Liked this one, and so many can relate to it too. We used to make 'housies' in the wood, with bent over branches, and leaves, and I spent hours in a tiny cupboard on a corner of the stairs, reading old comic annuals. You should put the photo on if you still have it.

The whole Corona business is a total disaster for almost any kind of business, shops, restaurants, pubs, cafès, manufacturers, private schools, hairdressers etc. etc. It's more important obviously to save lives, but many people are desperately worried, with no decent future in sight. No-one knows either how long the lockdown or semi -lockdown will have to last either. Very well described. Jennifer

I had someone like this years ago for a bit of company, plus his girlfriend. He was a bit of an oddball, and took some liberties; but thick skinned would describe him.
This brought it all back. An unusual offering. Your ending is more threatening of course.
