I knew someone in a slightly lower league of alcoholic slavery and
certainly identify with the lines "carried you home". How many times!
Friendship is occasionally a one-way street when a friend is seldom
able to navigate the way home under his own steam.

Lines that demonstrate hilarity in vulgarity.
I've often wondered at the virtuous mindset that thought up the description "self-abuse" for what is more accurately "self-love".
Self-hate perhaps?

I enjoyed these takes from notable events in the history of these islands. One might be more precise and call it "loo-ting"! ?
P.S. And far removed from a tissue of plys!!

KJ - a timely bit of positivity - thank you. We need to keep a sense of proportion and use our heads...not lose them!
By the way, your blog can be viewed as TWO poems...the first finishing on the line ending "the arrival of spring"....pleasingly
complete in itself.

I agree Keith, I do like to feel that we are truely blessed to be going through this at the the beginning of spring! I get hayfever though so it's a bit tricky being in my garden in case I start sneezing and everyone fears the worst!

Really enjoyed this one Jason. I've been thinking of that nursery rhyme a lot in relation to this current situation, nice re-working. I do feel Boris thinks he is 'King' as well Ha,Ha.

Jennifer, I found it really interesting what you said about Rosemary. For some strange reason I keep feeling the need to smell Rosemary essential oil in the past few days, and I didn't know this old belief. A funny coincidence! I thought it referred to actual roses.

PS: I've just found out that Rosemary oil supports respiratory function, so it turns out to be as relevant as ever.

I really like this Jason - one of the former plague ditties well suited to this crisis. As the old cockney saying has it, 'so I turns to him and says....' - actually meaning turning away from, and so as not to infect (or becoming infected by) germs of another, in those rat infested days of yesteryear. Well done. P. ?

Ring a ring o roses was about the old Black Death plagues, wasn't it, so clever re-use of it for this one! Think the 'roses' referred to a posy of flowers with rosemary, which was thought to give some protection. (Perhaps more nastily, to avoid the stench of bodies etc!) The bird upon the steeple - drones now. Really nice one.

Thanks Jennifer, Don, Bradwell and Po,
I just despair of the unbelievable ignorance of them. Boris was on the news last night and said it's no longer a request but an instruction and still this morning, according to the news, the tube in London was packed again. I really don't think it will be long before we're on a full, curfewed lockdown and who could blame them. Honestly, it sounds harsh, but you can see natural selection at play. But what really grips my shit is the absolute selfishness of these people, it's so irresponsible.❤

Trosh = thresh Po
I found out from Goog
You may be from Norfolk
But we played with doogs

We played it as kids
We played it at school
Each one had a doog bag
The game had it's rules

Sorry John, Gone off-poem but nuff shit already flying round....

One doog was Tom Bowler
Which offers a clue
We played it for keeps and
The craze it just grew

Shit John. I'll have the Thought Police onto me next for not commenting about your blog. But let's face it, too much shit is not a good thing

When you say you’ll “miss” me, Kev, is that with those rotten tomatoes? You too should stay safe with all those crackpots in Grimstone Low. If either of us should shake a six we can do so in the knowledge that we have forever added to the pantheon of literary culture.

Chief Master Rodder of Police
You've really got the shits
To go through hundred toilet rolls
The shits, you must have it

Now Master Po has said to toe
Toe the WOLer line
Don't forget to wash your sox
And hands, before you dine

As chief representative of the WOL Rodder Police I am keeping a watchful eye on you. Don't come back saying you've run out of sox and had to..... We have standards to maintain on WOL.... As you well realise...

Here in Italy it was similar in the beginning, especially with the young who always, I remember, think they are immortal. Here so many people have, and are dying - 24 doctors too, and the hospital staff are really stressed out, not only working 12 hour shifts in all that heavy clothing, but also risking their lives. You may not care if you die yourself, but why risk infecting someone in your family, and giving the hospital an even heavier load? It IS NOT JUST FLU by any standard, and if you get a really bad go it damages your lungs for ever. If you are infected by just one person, the viral load will be light and the disease not so serious, but if you are in a group where several can infect you, the load will be greatly increased and the disease much more severe. Liked the 'poisoned apple sleep'! Great writing as usual,

Jennifer
