It was a complex situation and not all of which is covered by the poetry, it didn't seem wrong to try and solve the problem within the loving relationship, rather than not solve it or not have a relationship. But eventually the trauma of it got too much for me, I thought we had been sharing that trauma together but there came a point when I learnt that it really was only me hurting. That's when he lost my love.

more appropriate. No apology sought or expected - not least
because all poets are open to comment for any number and
variety of reasons. Note Wendy Cope's mention about the good

This poem really intrigues me as I could respond to it in a number of ways. I suppose it depends on the reader's interpretation. The distant lifeboat is for me the journey to an eternal existence which in the poem is the wooden shack by the ocean. The ultimate destination from a restless world where we are tempted to linger and savour the last drop of our time here. I could be wrong but am curious to know.
One of the best poems I have read in a long time.

An incorrect assumption in an age in which to be readily offended appears endemic. I was reading the news item on Wendy Cope
and it occurred that there had surely never been a time when poets
in either category had so much opportunity to be read and heard.
And that both could and should make hay now that the sun shines

Arachnids are interesting creatures - not least for the variety of their
size and effect - ranging from harmless (to humans) to deadly and
best avoided. They have both inspired and instilled fear. My most
recent memory was seeing one tiny specimen near my bathroom
window suddenly emerge and rush forward to literally wrap a tiny
passing insect in its enveloping thread in what seemed like seconds.
Size is only relevant to the parties and the situation involved ! I'm
glad to live in a benign land which has no dangerous specimens - like
the Brazilian Wandering Spider which is known to run AT people, its
venom being of the nasty necrosis sort that rots the infected flesh.
Meanwhile, armed with a glass and piece of card, I'll keep helping
those more congenial examples I find trapped in the bath ?

Sadly, there are too many instances where the brave would-be rescuer perishes and the person in trouble is rescued. Most often it involves pets in distress too. He certainly was selfless.
