That's all I am able -or indeed need- to do now, literally.

maybe I'm wrong?
Speaking of anti-socialness, it's groundhog day again in the UK.

Thanks Stephen, funnily enough what triggered this off was the passing of a well known toastmaster whom I worked with a lot. He would have enjoyed the indelicacy of it, and he was devoted to his wife!
Thanks for reading and liking Stephen, Rudyard and Reggies Ghost.

I've worked with many people over the course of my career, at one time managing a team of thirty managers and nearly four hundred staff. In my experience the biggest critics of 'how things are done' were usually the ones that made the biggest 'f*ck-ups for me to sort out!
Everyone thinks that 'managing' is easy, everyone that is who have never managed so much as a fart! I am convinced we will have a new labour government after the next election debacle and I am further convinced that they will 'f*ck it up yet again.
All change!!!

I do not dispute the abject failure of today's Conservative and
Unionist Party to be recognised as its former self as the Party
of Middle England and Noblesse Oblige. The malaise seems
generational and interestingly commensurate with the global
gobbledegook that is de riguer among the chattering lasses.
Parliament is widely ridiculed and rejected for being way out of
touch with the people it supposedly represents and it is often
reported with much justifucation that there isn't a fag paper;s
worth of difference between the two major parties and their
policies - or lack of them. It has been said that cynicism is the
last resort of idealism. There is much truth in that observation.
The arena of Politics is its foremost battleground.

This is a very powerful, moving poem, Vanessa, about an uncomfortable subject. Your reading brings out the rhythm and the rhyming aspect of the poem and the language is very rich.
Thank you for this.

Have I accidentally wandered onto the film set of Nightmare on Downing Street?
Or have the Tories REALLY been in power for 13 years?😧

A strong, physical poem with some wonderful images ('she hopscothed', 'smug sculptures', 'blubbering fountains'). Conjures up the magical aspect of nature, like an unstoppable gift to an undeserving world.

Correct John. My local team as a boy. Dave Bowen was their celebrated manager of the day. I remember seeing them beat the all conquering Leeds United at the county ground. I also believe they held the record (until the points system was changed) for having the most points for a relegated team from the 1st Division!

Thanks, MC. I seem to recollect in my dim and distant past that Northampton Town went from the old Fourth Division to the First in successive seasons and then straight back down again.

This poems speaks of a time when we have given up on adventure; a time when apathy and lethargy have become deep rooted. There is a great temptation to stay in our comfort zones and idle away our time. The poem is also one of motivation in making the reader realise what he or she is missing. The need to engage with life, to appreciate the world about us. Perhaps the lock downs of Covid have fostered a new generation of the living dead.
A good read and one which merits some thought as we endeavour to renew our perspective on ife.
John, thank you for this

Children have a love of rhythm, and that is a ready companion
to verse. The poems of Robert Louis Stevenson aimed at
children are timeless and as good a place as any to start if
poetry for kids is to be treated with the respect it deserves.
Teachers need to be imbued with the enthusiasm and knowledge
of what is out there, while bearing in mind that little ones deserve not to be talked down to or patronised along the way..

Thank you everyone for your kind words! This poem was really hard to write and was prompted by my therapist because of some recent strife in our relationship. Initially, I thought I would write about all of the pain and emotional trauma that i've been given, but my heart took over; the part of me that very much remembers the hero he used to be.
Thank you

'0. n.o. ' is a good result if you have ever been out for a 'diamond duck' i.e. run out without receiving a ball. It happened to me, and surely to the subject of this poem.
