I remember the episode, MC. Betjeman was one of the greats and I never get tired of reading his poetry, or listening to a well-worn CD of Nigel Hawthorne reading his best works. 'Cricket Master' is the one that gets me every time, nostalgic but never slushy or sentimental.
Thanks for reminding us of this genius.

Stretching vast, from ancestors to next generations
Weaving each other, like pearls in a necklace's sensations

Smiling together, laughing and shedding tears
Standing with one another through all life's fears

These are but only four lines of such an excellent poem which shows how a family safeguard will support each other, no matter what horrendous problem a family member has encountered.

Ghazala,
Thank you for appreciating my remarks on the wearing of the hijab. As you know I am a person of Faith and firmly believe that God's law is above any law passed by a temporal power. God must always be our first consideration. His laws are just. The hijab in an important aspect of your Faith and I wholly respect those ladies who dress according to the will of Allah. Please continue to write your poetry as it is much appreciated. Inshallah.

This is from a larger piece "A Remembrance of Things Past - (A Proustian Rumble)". A nostalgic ramble through a fictional past. I've never been happy with the entire work, so I've been breaking it off into bite size pieces. This one ended up as a haibun because of the feeling of emotional awareness it has. I hope you like it.

Thank you JD,
Poverty and living in a tent in the freezing cold is a lifestyle choice, as we all know. Your snowflake, bleeding heart attitude is just one example of what is wrong with this once great country.

The following gaslighting propaganda on a BBC website.
“Negative lifestyle choices – the implications: Making negative lifestyle choices can be active – something people do – or passive – something people choose not or neglect to do...."

Yeah such as:
*not having any mental health services.
*not having enough disposable income.
*no fault evictions.
etc, etc, etc, etc,
💗

I think you're right, Greg. It took me a long time to recover from one triple whopper in Memphis some years ago! Think what a lifetime of that does to you.
John - In some ways that's the worst thing about Trump. Some things he says are achingly funny (unintentionally, of course) but the prospect of him in the White House again is alarming.
Another point is that THEY can goof around and deliver Trump but WE (the whole world) have to live with the consequences.

And thanks to Tom, Holden, Steve, Stephen A, K Lynn, Manish, John GE, Tim, Paige and Jon for liking this.
