With a flower for every birthday you missed.

Turquoise, violet, “tickled pink”—

What's that sound?
Is it a heartbeat?
A hummingbird singing?
It’s the sound of the crowd singing along with me.
It's so beautiful.
Like keys to a piano.
I can hear the crowd screaming “Hey, sing louder now,"
I have to show them what it’s like to be in love.
I have been living behind these four walls that I called my mind

She drags tired heels
across a tainted floor,
poise slightly bowed
and her back is sore.
She holds on her face
a cold marble stare,
a hard life engraved
upon cheeks once so fair.
Her faulting movements,
once graceful; divine,
her aching limbs now
with guile, defy
her final performance
on this dark empty stage,
of a much better age...
