A poem with some very powerful expressions which leave the reader under no misapprehension what is taking place. This poem is revelatory at a time when gender violence continues unabated. A powerful poem.
Thank you for this

This poem has a special quality, seldom found these days, whereby the reader is immediately brought into the scene with the writer.

Thank you for this

Yes Graham children will always be monstrously affected by virtue of their vulnerability and need for total support. They can of course be trained to hate for the same reason. ad infinitum.

Your comment is most welcome John, I tend to write short stuff mostly, if only to save energy.

Thank you Jennifer as always. Sometimes as with this one I start with an image and work it up - this began with just a hot day like a slit.

Thank you all Vautaw Jordyn and Stephen for your valued likes.

AH flowers - ever the euphemism for beauty and growth, or even tragedy and loss as in McCrea's, Flanders Fields, where the poppies blew row on row, between the crosses of the fallen in that dreadful earlier war around the Somme and western front and where the larks still flew bravely in spite of all the chaos and the mayhem.

Enjoyed your poem. P. ?

Thank you so much Keith, Jennifer, Stephen, Jordyn, Vautaw, Abdul and Julie for the likes. Very kind of you ?

Jennifer; yes escaping my small apartment has been essential this year and the walks around the outskirts of sunny Sheffield have saved my brain. I hope you've manage to get out and about?

Stephen; so pleased you should say that. I wondered if this might be too personal and specific to my experience to mean anything to anyone else, so thank you!

Julie; thank you too. I'm lucky to live somewhere with so many great views. The fact that every single step I take in this city is either up or downhill is completely worth it for the views alone. Let alone the exercise.

Cheers all ?

This is the first time I have encountered your poetry which I knew within seconds came from the heart. The poem is in many ways cathartic which is important for yourself. It is also a brave statement when one also takes into consideration your biography. It will spur others to be more positive about themselves.

I share your personal difficulties but not in such a complex manner. I can therefore express empathy. Keep on writing and do so with courage and honesty. In so doing you might well liberate many others in a similar predicament.

Thank you for this

Keith

Powerful, well constructed stuff - as expected from this particular source.
The ease with which virtue assumes its pose is always entertaining if not entirely credible in the real world. The humanity invoked ignores
the inhumanity that encourages this ongoing story of strangers in
search of...what? The fact that the great civilised lands of Europe
are used as stepping stones rather than destinations for newly
found freedom and safety is sidestepped. One might guess why
this situation is not addressed, even before considering the very
real aspects of security, health and social integration here in the UK,
a country less than half the size of France with a population that matches that of the latter. ?

For those of us fortunate to move from day to day free from pain, it
is almost impossible to imagine how it must be for those who have to
live with it. I recall a girl at work in the past who suffered from this
particular affliction and how it would affect her. Various "remedies"
were discussed as well as things to avoid that might cause its onset.
Having the occasional headache is hard enough to bear and that
has to be a guide as to how migraine can do so much to damage
the quality of life with its arbitrary arrival and delayed departure. ?

Thanks, Jennifer. I think that having wealth must be a wonderful
thing IF you are a balanced down to earth individual with a sense
of how to enjoy life. It doesn't go unnoticed that many rich folk will
indulge their material wants (NOT needs) - when spreading their
wealth around could add so much to life for others as well as giving
themselves a real reason to relish getting up each day. The
Victorian philanthropists could teach us a thing or two in that respect.

Thank you, as ever, Keith and Cathy and Paul. Keith, I hope it makes more sense as you read it again. TS Eliot said: "Genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood." Also close thanks are due to: Jennifer, Anmolpreet, Stephen and Tom.

“Poetry is the journal of the sea animal living on land, wanting to fly in the air. Poetry is a search for syllables to shoot at the barriers of the unknown and the unknowable. Poetry is a phantom script telling how rainbows are made and why they go away.” — Carl Sandburg, from The Atlantic, March 1923.

Paul thing are never the same again.

When water in a bowl is stirred invitably some is spilled.

No matter how hard you try to mop up and pour the spilled water back the water level in the bowl shall never be the same again.

The new horizon that will appear after this pandemic is brought under control shall not be the same as before.

We shall have to adapt or perish.

Thank you for your usual astute comments and the like.

Paul, I’ve been working on that. I grew up in the church being told what and how I had to believe. I’m finding things out on my own. I prayed years ago that my faith would be authentic and I believe God would have it that way.
