Hi Rodney, thanks for the comment on Kinsella.
I kind of agree with you about that line but placed it in brackets to make it less necessary to the poem. I just felt the ''distortion'' of the tune needed to be prominent.
I don't know if you read the first parts but you will find it in the August blogs if you'd like to catch up.

Hi Anthony,
glad to see you back and hope you had a good rest. Thanks for comment on Kinsella.
You'll find the previous entry in the August blogs or click on my profile and into other blogs then August. A bit of a trek i know.. :-)
As for the inspiration for it, well that's something i think a mind like yours will identify with.

Hi Isobel - to be honest, I'm still not too sure if the concept of 'WOLOP' has been fully explored before its trial period has began. If the whole thing is 'a work in progress' and further ideas and suggestions are still considered that may improve or, at the very least, reinforce some of the ideas that have allowed WOLOP' to arrive at this point, then it may increase its chances of what we could deem 'a success'.
In effect, it's a poetry competition.
Out the 550+ members on this site, how many make an active contribution where its reasonable to conclude that they may rustle the enthusiasm to read through many, many blogs. Apply subjective and/or artistic reasoning (impartially) and then vote?
And how does WOL admin benefit from all this?
Does it consolidate the site as the front-runner in 'Encouraging PERFORMANCE poetry'?
There are many questions which, I s'pose, can only be answered once we've 'sucked and seen'.
However, at the very least, I would limit participants to how many pieces they can contribute and submit OR consider charging £1.00 per poem (all profits returning to WOL) this may sound vulgar but as we know, WOL is not receiving anywhere near the funding it once was and any monies I'm sure would be grately received.
I'm sure that we can speak about this next week at The Tudor. Potentially, WOLOP is a good idea but in my opinion and as it stands - a ship's been launched with a few holes in its stern.

Hi, David. When I first started writing poetry, all my poems rhymed, and only later did I drop the rhyme. I posted an old poem, The Raven as an example.
I hope you have a great weekend.

Premature congratulation - just love it - only you could come up with something like that Anthony. Nice of you to drop in. Glad you like my piccie - me revolutionary? Never! It's just that red is my favourite colour. Yes, I agree that the success of this will depend on how many people vote. People who post a lot but don't comment will need to start being less selfish. If we only get the hard core voting it will all be a bit silly - not much of a pole... It looks like it will be another bumper month though - 50 odd poems and we're only on the 4th - some people have posted as many as 5 already though - perhaps that gives them an unfair advantage (tee hee).

Nice one. I don't think you needed the line about the distorted Christmas carol though.

Love the way the nice simple rhymes play against the more gothic aspects; and all in such good taste!

Hi Janet,
Did I miss parts I and II? Like others I find this intriguing (and a little puzzling.) I would be interested to know what inspired this - or would that break the spell?

A.E.

Hi Marc,
Admired this very much. Very interesting and unusual presentation that works well. I guess that marks me out as one of those "in the wrong mind." I'm not usually a great fan of introspective poetry, but there's a lot that I suspect many will identify with here.

A.E.

A whole month early Winston? Now that's what I call "premature congratulation"!
Why the Che pic Isobel? Are you heading up the WOL insurgency? Vive la Revolution!
This is potentially a great idea - and a big thank you to Isobel for pursuing it. Its success will of course, depend on participation by as many contributors as possible. I would urge everyone to support Isobel in this endeavour. It should be quite fascinating to see which works are popularly approved by poetic peers. (Oops, accidental alliteration - sorry!)
Versers unite - you have nothing to lose but your brains!
Regards,
A.E.

Hi Shoeless and thanks for your comments, which leave me a little confused!
Barlick-is that Barnoldswick??
if so, there is no big thing about this, it could have been Stockport or Todmorden, just picked the name of the place and went with it.

Terrific. Made-up words used to be all the rage...remember 'Eletelophony'? This is a delicious take-off on the sounds kids adore. I found 'spunky' a hiccup: too real, and even then, the meaning is out of whack. Ses I with more aplomb than good sense sometimes.

Hi Daniel,
i enjoyed reading this one too, it's so true and funny. This is an example of what i enjoy about rhyming poetry in this style, it injects a sense of humour and there's some great lines in this to my liking.

A sad one Steve - but as Cynthia says - you are going from strength to strength, hopefully not just in your poetry. Don't give a stuff about metres but know that the poem expresses well just what you wanted to express.

I can totally empathise with the first stanza - not sure I get the last two - or maybe I'm not a very soul searching type. I would agree that it is deep, well constructed and thought provoking.

A bit of a sad ending though Janet - I'm hopeful that Kinsella will find peace - there has to be a further edition - I don't accept sad endings.

'lent not given' is very powerful and true. I tried to say something like this to my daughter on her first pregnancy but she thought I was heartless. Not many people can accept this idea except through the experience of losing a child.
