Big Bad Sam

A nasty piece of work was Barnoldswick Sam

always drinking, smoking, fighting,

cursed like a trooper

that was Big Sam.

Some used to call him

Sam the Egg,

on account of him looking

like egg on legs,

never to his face though,

would have tore their legs off

would Big Sam.

not so bright was Sam,

but good at throwing things around,

 picking up heavy weights,

nor was he into healthy eating

was our Sam,

Ten pints at dinner

another twelve or so at night,

pie and double chips

with lots of gravy and

half a loaf of bread,

a fish or five on friday nights

that was Big Sam.

He died at twenty nine did Sam,

old dray horse carted him to graveyard, and

ten of us carried coffin,

truth be told not many were sorry

to see Sam on his way,for

right bad un was Barnoldswick Sam.

Hi Shoeless and thanks for your comments, which leave me a little confused!

Barlick-is that Barnoldswick??

if so, there is no big thing about this, it could have been Stockport or Todmorden, just picked the name of the place and went with it.
Bernie.
