I'm completely in your corner Stephen. But if we truly believe in a different point of view folk should be able to post pro-Russian comments on here, but if they did I have no doubt that there would be an outcry from members and a warning from the moderators.

A family lived here in a flat
Six months ago. I could show you,
But the photograph is burnt;
The block of flats flattened;
The family now
Gone somewhere else –
A graveyard
Or just
Smoke.

That might be your point John but the evidence that I've shared with you indicates that all elite athletes are exploiting biological advantages of one form or another (like your example of tall high-jumpers) and being assigned male at birth doesn't necessarily have the impact that you say it does which is why I shared some examples of elite athletes in men's sports who were assigned female at birth.
There has been some interesting research over the last few years into the genes that affect athletic performance (and don't affect sex) that is worth your time reading.

Those memories are some of the most vivid I can recall from early childhood )
It might seem irrelevant to mention, however, I try to impart a bit of knowledge to the young people with whom I work that the wizard at the end of the road is really just a miserable old man (or woman).
Meh, what can we do...
As they say, it's good enough for government work.
I hope you are well, too, David, and thanks for stopping by 🌷

Stephen, the tragedy here in my opinion is that it all makes complete sense, but given a different environment - of fear and mistrust such as existed in the fascist world, the right to express other than the party line and espouse it to the exclusion of any other horizons was the norm. There are those who would gain ground if given sufficient incentive - those of limited intelligence already much admired in the media. Be aware at all times!

Stephen, what an excellent piece of thought-provoking writing.
When thinking of the complexities of cohabitating as a species and doing it in some civilized fashion is remarkable. Our entire existence revolves around and evolves from personal perspectives, Societies rely on some collaborative point of view. Amazing!!

Graham, I don't think you'll never know how much this means to me - "you are getting better," I feel like I've been wanting to hear to these lines from you from a long time. Thank you indeed, your advice to me, for my betterment, has helped me a lot.

Cheers John for the link. Nothing is sacred!
Thanks for your regional update Jennifer. It's chasing rainbows here - "flat white" has been added too but it really is hard to hit the spot every time - I wonder if it's really an art form getting the balance right. My poem I feel is an example of frustration - nobody's fault , doing their best etc being all we can expect! Hope all is well with you these days!

Stephen the world exists constantly if there is 'balance'.
Sadly when things get out of balance it gets very messy indeed.

Hi Stephen,
there isn't much of more importance than the right to speak up freely, except probably the right to be heard by all.
A right which is often policed by those anxious to have only their own voices heard. Such censorship exists in the highest offices of state to the lowliest agencies of eliteist clubs and closed societies (in fact everywhere) simpler put.
The exclusion of incitement to violence and hate should persist, but that too should be made known to all. It is a delicate area because sometimes restrictive regulation (even of hate and extreme predjudice) fans the flames of its growth. It is a difficult one which I suspect the only real antedote for is education...good luck with that.
A worthy thought and piece of writing which if not new requires repetition frequently.
David

Thanks Hugh, Stephen, Holden and Elizabeth for the likes. The Corso is the Italian equivalent of the UK High Street, and on Saturday evenings teenagers have a tradition of walking up and down there, meeting old and new friends, and hopefully a girlfriend or boyfriend, of course! It's amusing to watch them sometimes.

The point is, Steve, that the Olympic 100m isn’t for persons with lower testosterone or oestrogen levels and for persons with higher testosterone or oestrogen levels, it’s for women and men. Otherwise a biological man who identifies as a man but who has low testosterone could compete with women. And a biological woman who identifies as a woman would be barred from competing as a woman if she had high levels as was the case of Caster Semenya, who testing has shown to be a woman with these unnaturally high levels. If this was the case perhaps we should bar tall athletes from the high jump because of their biological advantage.

Hi Landi,
The idea and memory of being a child attempting to understand the actions of our guardians can be upsetting when reflected upon. It can open up deeper wells of contemplation which seem to stretch out for endless periods of time.
That is the thought which your writing here brings to my mind.
I hope you are well.
Thoughtfully written mesmerising words.

Agree with Stephen!!!! Once tried never again.Italian coffee is usually great, and none if those truly weird additions. Uk tea is infinitely better than Italian though, as here they don't use boiling water, just hot, and a teabag! Don't like those plastic cups from the chains either.

JC's most recent comment contains much sense - and yes, this oldie certainly recalls those Russian "athletes" of yesteryear.
It was surely all part of the "win at all costs" mentality of the
communist idealogy versus the imperialist West. My lasting
memory of a visit to Leningrad (as was) in the 1970s is a
Russian matchbox, with a draw that was too loose to stay in its
container and threatened to spill its contents in every direction
whenever the box was handled.
