The Poem of the Week is 'Imogen – 10 months old' by Trevor Homer

entry picture

This weeks Poem of the Week is the delightful 'Imogen - 10 months old' by Trevor Homer, a beautiful poetic tribute to a specific young girl as well as an ode to the innocence of youth itself and the joy it casts upon those that witness it.

With gorgeous, gentle language, Trevor invites us in to a personal family scene and leaves us in no doubt of the awe and wonder felt in the presence of a new life.

Imogen - 10 months old

by Trevor H\omer

I stand with my back to the sink

While your grandmother rummages

In cupboards below. Gazing up,

She meets your expectant face

Seemingly suspended in mid air.

You are bent almost backwards;

Determined to know what world of wonder

Exists on those shelves.

I fear to move, so like a little bird you were,

Nestling into the crook of my neck,

Rubbing your silken-hair against my skin,

Fledgling-like, perched on the bough of my arm.

I thought for a moment you would slip from the nest

Of my embrace and fly around the kitchen.

Beautiful poem Trevor which is nicely rounded up the final line

'slipping from my embrace and fly round the kitchen'
wonderful and a richly deserved POTW

Congratulations

Delightful, deceptively simple poem, Trevor.
The move from description to the 'fledgling' image is so apt, and everyone who's held an infant in their arms can relate to that feeling.

Trevor

I am so very pleased that 'IIMOGEN' has been chosen as POTW.
It is a beautiful poem, intimate, sincere and so touching.

Congratulations,

Dorothy
