Warpaint
De rigueur are multiple piercings
Everyone seems to sport a tattoo
We don a livery of branded goods
Yet this paraphernalia is hardly new
Are we genuine followers of fashion,
Envying next door's Mediterranean tan
Or diven by demons in our genes
That descended from Stone Age man?
Why did tattoos become so critical?
Do your lugs really need triple bangles?

Observe
On the old oak tree
Sits a mother with her child
Giving her some lessons
carried from generations!
Her voice so hoarse and quiet
like the black night sky,
"Listen well dear!"
The mother sighed
"Silence is the wisest thing,
Its with you when no one else is,
silence itself is an answer,
to all those fools, who roam around!
Keep quiet, and you'll see,
the light in miracles!
The less you...

Waiting For The Owl
Supper is over and bed-time awaits
The moon has shrunk to a silver cowl
My bedroom window is rimmed with ice
As I watch and wait for the owl
Waiting for the owl waiting for the owl
The woods echo to its supernatural screech
Waiting for the owl waiting for the owl
That ghostly voice more vivid than speech
Is it always the same owl or has it a sibling?
Beak no do...

Soft Spirit of the Night
As I leave my home behind
To walk the far farm fields
The spirit of the land enfolds me
Its silence becomes my mantle
While I alone hear
Those wafted word
As the wind caresses the treetops
Whispering englynion
To lure me on
Through woodland and moor
Beyond fences, ever deeper into a land
Clothed in swirls of radiant mist
Rising from plashy pools and tarns
Amo...

where the ducks might be,
but there’s no-one in sight
just the rustling of the leaves.
Would you believe
the quack that you heard
was the sound of an owl,
a sad little bird.
“A quacking owl?”
I hear you exclai...

WOODLAND WONDER
WOODLAND WONDER
Gently caressed by the breath of the breeze,
branches sway atop tall lofty trees.
Restless leaves, to gnarled fingers, cling
wondering what freshness the new day will bring.
Hopping about on long leafy arms,
fluttering feathers displaying delicate charms.
Beautiful songbirds sing out their sweet melodies
in the grand performance of natures sweet harmony.
Bushy tailed...
