True Love

Have I loved?
Yes, on the spectrum,
towards the sacrificial side.
Silencing my soul,
losing my identiy.
Endless nights
crying myself to sleep.
I sometimes think I would have
preferred an easy love
bouquets of rainbow colored daisies,
sparkling teeth,
a passionate love,
French kisses in Rome,
ruffled sheets,
a forever love,
hugs, holding hands, 
finishing each other's sentences...

Poetry Is For Cowards

 

She says that poetry is for cowards…

…as though in wanting to capture in five minutes,

in a mere thirty lines,

in its purest distillation the essence of

that which lasts for hours, days,

that which is heavy

with the gravity of a lifetime…

…as though this is not a desire

worthy of the more intrepid of nerve
