Hello Cynthia. I've read a lot of your poetry tonight. Decided to. I like 'Hurricane' and 'The parting' a lot, pithy, focused, precise - though I'm not a descriptivist myself - but i think 'Dream footer' would benefit from being must less first person. I think it could be a great poem - reworked.

Hi Steve. Thanks for taking the time to comment on "The Smegroyd's moonlight Flit". It pleased me that you compared it to a music hall ditty, because that's the feeling that I'm aiming for.
Cheers Kevin

Welcome to Wol, Jana. This site is very generous in outlook.
I really like the sample you have shown on this page. For me, it shows a breadth of understanding and great sincerity. Not everybody can bring deep feelings into words.
Keep writing.
I'm thinking: what does she mean 'pin and pad'? And then it hit me. I'm guessing you mean 'pen and pad'. If I'm right, you might take a moment to fix it. If I'm wrong, I'd love to know what you do mean.
If that is you in the photo, you look quite young. But photos can fool 'big time'.

I'll try to catch up with more of your work, Lan. I'm not on site that much these days. Sorry to have checked in so late.
The poem here on your profile has some breath-taking ideas and skillful imagery. Not altogether easy to follow, but original, and yours! Great feeling, isn't it?

BTW, I do like your 'sample' above. 'Speechless with a mouthful of syllables' is super!
But you can never experience the inadequacy of speech until you've known the span of perception and thought; words are just the trolley car. Which statement is pretty weird, but I bet you know what I mean.
When I took part in a 'Poets' Club', writing, reading, discussing etc. I met a fellow member one day, in a shop elevator. She opened her purse and took out a slip of paper, saying, 'Look, Cynthia: 'The Parting'. I keep it with me always.' I was so touched I wept.
The 'poem' was a real experience; and perhaps that is what truly resonates.

Wow your first sample "The parting" is so poignant. I can't count the number of nights I have laid alone, remembering sweet nothings that still mean everything. Thank you for sharing, and thank you for your comment on my work "One Moment". You're an inspiration!

Hello Laura, thank you so much for your comment on my poem Strong Vulnerability. It's a double thank you because it led me to your poem Dear Margaret.
A stunning performance. Very strong.
So sorry to hear of the passing of your father.
Indeed a very special relationship.
I look forward to discovering more of your work.

Sorry, not used to commenting on WOL, but loved Sometimes. I can relate to that. In the last "verse" I might leave it as a 2 liner - skip the top two lines and leave the rest. But, if you are like me, you will ignore this anyway. It's my poem so eff-off anyone else! (me speaking here!). Loved it anyway. Well I did Sometimes... ?

Welcome to WOL, Linton. I'll try to catch up with more of your work. I'm not on-site constantly. Hurrah for a first, brave step.
I hope a word of advice will be taken as sincerely as I offer it. Be careful not to flood the venue with too many poems at once. Sometimes it works, but not as often as it doesn't. This I have noted from experience.
Also, these September poems are now 'past tense' so to speak, off the main 'monthly' line. Some readers check back; some don't.
I had an uncle called 'Linton'. It's not a very common name, but a splendid one.

Hi, David.
Just read "The Fox" in your Samples (above).
It's a great poem that jogs along very well and can be read as a light, bouncy narration.
However, it also seems to me to be full of very well crafted - and very subtle - metaphors, which lifts it up into a higher league altogether.
An excellent poem!

Stu, thanks for your most recent comment. I've changed the'poem' a bit, and I'm only hoping I've not spoiled what you liked.
It refuses to be 'categorised' as any 'type' of form. It just fights back. And so I let it be what it is. I'm not sure it's 'poetry' at all.

Hi MC We all know from a negotiating standpoint, union leaders and politician's demands are usually over the top, then when challenged through negotiation, fettled down to a more acceptable package "in this instance"by the democratic process existing in most EU member states.
On this speed shrunken planet imperialism is on its death bed radical change is sorely needed by way of a united Europe as an example to the rest of the world.
And as one wise commentator quoted to me on here at W.O.L.
"Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it"

Ken - what do you think of the latest utterances from the
EU's "John 'Claws' Junkshop"? Even avowed "Remainers"
seem dubious about the intentions. But it surely endorses
what has been suspected from when the Referendum
Party(Goldsmith/Walters) warned against what was planned
- including an EU army and non-accountable police force -
and was roundly mocked for its "ridiculous" assertions.
Power does strange things to those on the Continent!!
Perhaps JCJ sees an emperor's role on offer?

I appreciate your interest and your comments. I always consider very carefully suggestions from fellow writers. And I have benefitted hugely.
But, in the case of 'The Dreamfooter', I would not now make alterations. It has been twice published and three times presented in spoken poetry 'programmes'.
I often make changes years after first 'writing'. Just not this time.
Thanks much. And, please, never hesitate to challenge anything I write. That is real 'sharing'.
