I put "Geordie" at the top of unintelligible UK tones. There was one
who was a customer at a pub I used to frequent whose rapidity of
words and intonation left me nodding politely but with little idea of
what he had said. And when I asked him to speak more slowly, he
would look at me as if I was a foreigner in the country! ? Very early in my life, i realised that "received English" was the only
sure way to be understood - especially important in public service - and my West Country upbringing adapted accordingly.

I have always self-funded my forays into poetry & song publication
and see this as no different-with the exception of having to accept
work being restricted by other opinions beyond my control.
Nonetheless, the "shop window" is a concept well worth preserving
for many reasons and I have contributed accordingly. As for the
total sought, it is bears comparison against the sort of sums that
are made available for various "prizes" that get publicised on
this site, not least in the "high end" range of the world of poetry
publication..

That will be really sad if WOL disappears. I've already made as much contribution as I feel is possible/reasonable for my circumstances. It wasn't a contribution for the past efforts as laudable as they may be, it was intended to support the future existence of the site.
Sometimes I get the feeling that every time I become a frequent consumer of something it fades unexpectedly out of existence.. I would feel guilty but previously it has only happened with chicken korma pouches, thai green curry soup, and other similar items that I have let my broken-heart try and forget.. never with poetry websites before.

Well, as you both may know, is a deep subject.
Aviva, with all these new parts I could be a new man, maybe better than I am. Only that I do surely understand for I have guarded an inch from many a hand. I guess it would go into the old saying of trust needing to be earned, this though, one must learn. Only sometimes an inch can be what a person really needs to get ahead in life. follow your heart and be happy for love will be your guiding light.
To Sir Paul: " The Answer my friend is blowing in the wind" .
"Dust in the wind"
"winds of change"
"the wind whispers Mary"
Great tunes to give a listen

I love it that none of that happens to me!
I'm obviously not adventurous enough for those sort of calamities.
Or maybe just not lucky enough for that sort of unluckiness.
But I thought the poem was amusing especially to list spousal unfaithfulness measure on measure with socks for Christmas and collapsing soufflé .
I also couldn't find a link to the new book is it findable online yet?

I once shared an office with an Italian colleague who spoke the most extraordinary gutteral Belgian French. He sounded like a Gallic John Prescott. I remember that one day he came in with his arm in plaster and told me that his wife had just broken her leg. Not terribly logical, I know. It was rumoured that they were driving the car by...no, I don't believe it either.

I have to say, MC, I prefer the sound of French.I can get by in speaking it but what comes back is high-speed gobbledygook.
Interestingly, I’ve heard it said that as we think French sounds sexy, the French think English does too. They should come to Barnsley. Even Doncastrians can’t understand them.

Should I mention that immortal phrase "Ooh-la-la"? Why isn't it
"Ooh-le-la" or "Ooh-la-le"? .For sheer aural attraction, i prefer the
Italian language - almost musical in its intonation and arguably that
much more romantic. All that French masculin/feminine-y separation
seems sexist to me.

Hi Greg. Time to spill the beans. The Nomad Theatre project a few years back in East Horsley. Put the cuffs on me.
Brian, I'm twisting on a spit, but thanks anyway.
Kimberly, it's not as bad as stand up comedy, but there was nothing funny in this . I feel for you.
Paul, It does take some balls to present your work, but if the audience likes you it's not hard work. That day was a baptism of fire; I don't think it would have made a difference who was reading frankly.
I rely on empathy so much and am willing to work for it, but have no day job....
Stephen , you picked a good one there. Wrong time wrong place.

Hi Paul,
I'm pleased to know you enjoyed this humble offering.
I've been 'missing in action' recently, due to beginning a novel (yes, but I couldn't help myself!) .
After a while though, my poetic urges returned and would not be denied - and probably never will be.
Take care,
Chris

Thank you Paul, Holden and Keith for the likes and for reading ?
And thank you Keith, I'm honoured you'd share this with your friend. For me expressive and evocative photography is the art form most akin to poetry – and perhaps even more instantly transportive. It's a great source of inspiration too. As with the poets I like, when I find them, I often like everything they write; and the same with particular photographers.
I wish I managed to say it all slightly more pithily but my inner editor failed me on this one. ?
