This brought tears to my eyes, Stephen. A powerful, touching poem.

You make an interesting point, Russell. The horror of war and its crimes is now served up on TV in our living rooms. John - you are right. It is sometimes difficult to write these poems, which is why I try to approach each one find a different (and sometimes unusual) angle. I just feel that I have to do it at the moment.
Thanks to both of you for the comments.

I like the idea in this poem but am wondering about 'leave'. The singular of 'leaves' something that trees produce is 'leaf' . If that's not what you meant, please disregard this.

Thanks Stephen and MC for your comments. I often muse about what, if anything follows this existence and I do keep changing my mind
A hot line would be great, Stephen and I think the jesuits and communists were/ are into mind control, which I don't approve of. Each to their own!!!

Great questions and brilliant answers. I love how he rephrases canonical poetic knowledge into a modern, populist context.

This is the commentary to the visuals on Television.
War is grim, but there is always someone somewhere cleaning up.

Thank you both, writing the truth is so much easier, but ultimately so much scarier. I wish it wasn't the truth.
I had to write it to evict so many ghosts, It took less than a day because once started it just flowed.

I agree about believing what you want to believe. The Jesuits
knew about getting in charge of that sort of thing with their
own actions of control over malleable minds...e.g. the very young and impressionable. This is, of course, replicated in lands where
what we understand as religion is replaced by another "belief system" - like communism.

Thanks a lot, John and K.Lynn. It is fascinating, though perhaps inevitable how the mundane tasks continue against a background of horror. I once met a taxi driver from Beirut who told me how they tried to maintain a normal life against the background of war -shopping, taking kids to school etc.
And thankyou to Julie, Holden and Stephen for liking this one.

A thought-provoking poem, John. In my recent 'Hot Line', I mused on the possibility of some way for those still down here to contact deceased loved ones. But what of 'those up there'? Like you, I want to believe that there is something.

Thanks MC. An interesting perspective on my poem. I suppose I was suggesting that we tend to believe what we want to believe π

Fair point! But my thoughts were of a more general nature.
We seem to be regularly exposed to anything that engenders
raised levels of concern and there is a justified suspicion that this is being used for political purposes in a variety of ways in this
global (instant news) world. The fact that we now have to face
terms like "fake news" indicates that things are not as straight-
forward as before. So, let us set our faces towards the onslaught, unbowed and undaunted. π

Food for thought. Is there more after this existence on Earth?
The word "existence" may give the clue and provide hope for
more to come (as long as it's a welcome sort of "more", of
course!!) As I've observed elsewhere from a personal level,
there are things we can't witness, smell, taste or touch but, like
a TV, could it be that if you have the right receptors you get the
picture? Worth dreaming about perhaps? π.
