Very heartfelt . I would imagine this resonates with most people at sometime. I have observed that one can even feel alone in a crowded room. A very thought provoking poem Steven.

So glad to hear you wash your neck once a week LOL Your poem brings back memories of my childhood (not all good), The lovely coal fires people like to reminisce about entailed freezing cold mornings, ice on the inside of windows, damp towels, mottled thighs and freezing bottoms, icy cold beds and all the dirt and grime of cold dust. Modern life has a lot to recommend it but as you point out - we still leave our carbon footprint - the use of tumble driers that often could be avoided with a little effort. Sorry to ramble.

Oh Steven - don't know if this is written from a personal perspective or not but it is ever so sad. I guess we all get those moments when we feel like this though - no matter how many people surround us. You express the feelings vey well and I find that last line particularly poignant and hard hitting.

I must admit to loving Blackpool. Its tacky, loud, money orientated, but I still love it. Yes I love the candy floss, the loud raucous music, the fun fair, the lights, the dirty sea which is always too rough to go in.... the merry makers, the hen and stag party goers dressed as ruptured cows....no no no.. there is no North of England without a Blackpool!

Yes..... loved this Cynthia. So glad you dug it out of your archives!! Our dad played the piano, and our mother had a glorious voice, so we all grew up singing classics, war songs,opera, musicals or pop off the radio, whatever was the happening of the moment. An incredibly noisy household!!!

Thank you for your comment Cynthia. I have read very many of your poems and consider you to be a talented and clever lady - I am therefore touched that you should like my poem. Much of my poetry comes direct from the heart and therefore I don't give much thought to structure. I am not that well educated in poetry so don't know the difference between a cinquain and a tanka - but I will research them for future reference.

Stephen, this is where commentators get 'presumptuous', as I am going to be. I take this liberty because we have begun to connect as friends. I think this idea is really good, and very worth sharing. But I also think it needs more work to tighten it up. Half the number of words would probably suffice, and make the impact of your memories more powerful. I recommend that you delete to bare bones, and then see what a great 'picture' you have. This suggestion is a compliment, not a negative criticism.

hi Emma, yeah be lovely to meet you, will be at Freed Up this thursday. Yes most of my poems do rhyme, the rhythm (all the hard words lol) helps when I'm performing live to remember them, well sometimes anyway!

I'll keep an eye out for any work you do, the feedback does help, just be careful with the spelling, it can make a massive difference and if its wrong it stands out mile and can ruin an otherwise good poem!

I even wrote a poem last year 'Queens English RIP' because of number of people who get you're and your mixed up, drives me mad! JeffX
