Im not the best on the meanings of poems but is it talking of a brittle love?, In any case I really enjoyed reading it , one of my faves, really interesting use of phrases and I think its shortness makes the words feel stronger :-)

I really like the meaning and phrases in this poem and thought the bit about a person not being just a book was very clever, nice read :-)

I agree good comes from bad, and I have been in bad places, and now I am here, ready to appear on Radio Teesdale this afternoon. Life is mysterious, glorious and precious. That's a brain hemorrhage and a baby born three years later talking.

I too enjoyed reading this, Marianne - several times!
It has such a lovely and romantic feel to it...
My favourite lines:

'shuddering; salty kisses falling on her lips.
Her smile, her smile, he held bewitched
in ripples eclipsed in the dewy light'

Cheers Dave, for your comments on East Budleigh. I guess you must have stumbled upon it while scanning through the childhood poems. In all honesty I don't think there was any justification in keeping that particular line open, but there were plenty of better-used ones that never should have closed.

These poems are just great, Dave. And it is so true that much of children's literature is very dark indeed. I can imagine these poems in a beautifully illustrated book with rich, lush colours.

Very powerful. Excellent use of language to convey difficult experiences but you keep it at bay somewhat with the use of colour so that it isn't too harrowing for the reader.
