My encyclopaedia informs me that "Palestine" is derived from
"Philistine" and that the latter were a people that originated
from Crete to settle on the coastal plain at about the same time
that the people of Israel were arriving from the east. Philistine
superiority in materials used for weaponry, together with their use of chariots and military form of government, made them a serious threat to the Israelites. A period of acute antagonism
was brought to an end by David's "unchallengeable superiority" - living relatively peacefully apart from
occasional incidents, until the Philistines disappeared as "an
independent entity" (quote).
Now...fast forward a couple of thousand years...!! Fascinating
stuff in its commentary on the present far from clear situation
so deeply dipped in ancient history.

Indeed. Ms Ayres was mentioned years ago as the Poet Laureate that should have been. Her material gives huge pleasure to
many, probably the reason why the "poetry industry" has been described as the enclave of the self-indulgent and wretched
and is so far removed from public esteem or even consideration.

Like Christmas trees, there is something ineffably poignant about
an abandoned musical instrument. So much pleasure thrown

Ah...the perennial curse of "the expert" in our lives...pursuing
the old habit that "experts" indulge in with alacrity: offering
conflicting advice and wisdom to pesuade us of their case!!
But I like the use of that famous poem of "rush and blunder".
to make your comedic (and costly) point. I have already
experienced something similar in this rented flat, but without
the cost as these "experts" applied their skills to problems
experienced from previous installations, both done on behalf of the landlords responsible for these services.

Thank you Keith,
Having been led astray by liars on many occasions, I now attempt to question everything, and to assume nothing-and there is nothing more tedious than the repetetive lying of some arrogant politicians.
The insistent, questioning nature of your poem, far from being tedious, is an assertive and compelling quest for truth.
Hopefully, the answers to many of your questions could well form the basis for prosecutions in the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Thanks for the kind words, Stephen. Must admit I don't feel the need to write as much poetry nowadays after I finished my last poetry book but when John passed last week even though we weren't friends and hadn't been for some time, it just seemed so much a total waste and this poem wrote itself really. Glad you like it.

It's amazing just how relevant Shakespeare's genius has
remained to the human condition over the centuries, richly
deserving of its fame. We read his words and it is as if time
has stood still and we are in his company. Perhaps only Oscar
Wilde has come close to his mastery of his craft, albeit in a
specialised barbed sort of way of observing and commenting
on human behaviour.

‘The Times They are A-Changin”!

I remember the UK's warmongers trying to drag us into Vietnam: now they're spouting conscription and national service rhetoric, trying to whip up World War III.

We need more protest songs. If I had the energy, I'd be out on the streets with the peace protestors.
