If I had know of your passing I would have taken a short bus ride to your funeral.
Take care.

I wasn't expecting to like this much as I was never really into the Sex Pistols - but you capture something of him well, I think. I particularly liked the last lines of 2010:
...scraping insults in the wind
almost like it was
the only person left
who was listening.

Hi Stephanie

I am fairly new to this site and only belatedly found out that every time I post an entry on the blog it replaces the previous entry, though all previous entries are held in the archive. I only mention this because I notice you posted quite a number yesterday but only the latest is visible, though when I opened it up I had access to the others.

Hope you don't think I'm interfering but as I do like your stuff it would be good for others to see it also.

Regards

Brian

nice one Stephanie but like most things these days it's the people not the product that makes social media what it is and social media has shown that people are pretty dumb.

I think the poem would have more impact written out in a standard down the page format which would also highlight the rhyming words.

Thanks for posting. Colin.

I am happy to see what I would have thought were my own thoughts, only written in some one elses words. And even though I have a strong distaste for social media, I have to recognize that this poetry sharing does induce some of the same addictive social stroking. I hope you don't see this as me ragging on your poem, because I truly did enjoy it.
Thanks NewShoes

I guess we can't all go moony - eyed Laura, including me. Somehow in some parallel universe of hackneyed verse they pull us in through guilt manipulation, as do all cards i'm afraid. A famous comedian (I worked with loads) actually suggested I write verse for card publishers. Why didn't I think of that?

Happy Valentine's day by the way.

Thanks David. The trouble is that often when I write, I am not stating my opinion necessarily, as I can usually see many sides to any held stance. This perhaps weakens the strength of the message, but i'm not here to make judgements, as you well know. They are simply for the readers to ponder on. Sometimes that means a poem will appeal to head not heart, but that's my burden. I'm glad you know me well, and perhaps my scope is rather wide, simply because of my curiosity. Think as a child is what I say and leave interpretations to adults. Condemnation and adulation are both both sides of a coin to me. I do find your comment heartening actually and quite down to earth!

It's very nice to get a like from you Laura, cheers.

Ray

beautiful and well worth Googling the notes to gain a better understanding of all the interwoven elements. Worth also finding Hylas seduced by the Nymphs by John William Waterhouse or as one art critic described them as 'trollops in the pond'. Manchester Art Gallery recently took down the picture for a short time as part of a discussion on race, gender and sexuality. 'Hylas was chosen because the painting has been a barometer of public taste since it was painted in 1896 and continues to be so.' Fair enough. I'll stop waffling. Great poem Chris. All the best, Colin.

Thank you for the like David. No dislike button can harm this site.

Certainly true Col. Yes, I suppose rather downbeat; also a testament I hope to a generation that held strong views and the need to perpetuate themselves in some form, with the bonus of serving the "community." Do we have them any more? Thanks mate.

Thanks for stopping by Hannah. All a bit sad. My age is too much for most people probably,, but there are always angles hidden beneath exteriors.

Off the chest and on to the page Cynthia - I think it is a great thrill to see your print on a book , like a "signature dish" from a celebrity chef. You can go back to that loved effort and feel good. Power to your elbow I say.
I reckon poetic recognition is just chasing clouds. In the end you only have yourself.
