A balancing act between farce and drama Peter. You throw your net in a wide arc and then examine the details for our delight. I was thinking that probably being that as bones dry out they would have been one of the first inspirations of early man making soundscape s. (Being hollow). You have the tube like quality that belongs to the woodwind family eg. Well worth the long read. I hope you're doing ok! Some excellent inventive lines here. Ray

I am minded to compare your observations about captive animals to that of those humans, stupid enough to go on expensive safari holidays. They spend their time caged into an observation truck amongst the fierce animals, who rather give them the same ambivalent glances that caged animals receive from visitors. The original human zoo I think!

Good piece judging by all the comments too. Well done.

You certainly got my attention, Peter!

David has pretty much covered my response to your clever words in his comments - particularly the last para.

The image of a line of cold, stiff, tagged feet being played like a Xylophone by someone in a white coat, gleefully making music... will stay with me.

Thank you.

Sadly the curiosity we feel for other species often leads to forms of entertainment based our own limited views of what we know about ourselves. A no brainer all round . We are far better off just domesticating animals, or of course eating them. The instinct of humans is to fear or control after all. I am not trying to denigrate those who devote their lives sincerely to understanding of course.

A very fine piece of work Rachel.

Ian,

This is a masterpiece of poetic imagination in which I was taken to that very beach. A story is told which draws on past tragedies and present decadent life styles; their distance and incompatibilty and the awful consequences when they meet. I raced through it at first but then needed to re trace my steps to absorb the full content of this excellent poem.

Thank you

Keith

this one of your best. The rhyming is perfect and the poem has the ability to take the reader straight to where it is all happening with heaps of language to stimulate the imagination.

Thank you for this

I know at times I'm flippant
At times I even joke
But this invention's serious
From here that I have spoke

https://www.designweek.co.uk/issues/8-14-april-2019/could-earrings-be-designed-to-prevent-pregnancy/

Now that you've come to mention it
The chemists I will ask
To come up with patch-watch maybe?
Sperm-neutralizing task?

This is a beautiful poem full of selfless generosity and love and ending with

"My love knows no limits"

- so full of warmth- I am left wanting to delve deeper - wanting to know more - waiting for the next one.

A good poem which focuses on the despair and stress experienced by most people today, particularly as we get older. I also think it needs several readings as there are hidden meanings which require some additional thought. It is wrought from direct experience.

Thank you for this
