Strewth, MC! I’ve just googled it and it seems I was exonerated after a year from the offending! Where’s the justice in that? I demand my criminal record back. What about my street cred? What about my rights? WOL should start a movement, “COOPS IS GUILTY. WADDA WE WANT? JUSTICE. WHEN DO WE WANT IT? BACKDATED AND UNTIL 2052”.

During my time on the beat at Limehouse in 1960s Docklands here in The Smoke, we had our share of weekend incidents of
this sort, with the venues being popular Chinese restaurants
of the time that attracted visitors from near and far, often after
an evening at one of the area's very busy well-known pubs.
You may have been lucky. The restaurant staff of which i speak were not averse to seizing meat cleavers and anything else
that came to hand in their angry pursuit of those they said
sought to avoid payment. It could be something of a trial (if you'll pardon the expression) separating those concerned and restoring order before deciding who was worth nicking.
It was The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act that allowed for
the creation of "spent convictions" for specified offences,
one of the more sensible pieces of legislation to get passed
in Parliament...

But why did we send them away, away?"

A good point, well made.
There has been many atrocities and war crimes carried out by the Russian forces in Ukraine.
But on the whole they are young people forced into a situation which they never asked for, and don't understand.
What they are doing is unforgivable, but they are only the puppets.

Ensanguining the skies
How heavily it dies
Into the west away;
Past touch and sight and sound
Not further to be found,
How hopeless under ground
Falls the remorseful day.

The things we learn on this blog, John. It reminds me of Alan Partridge trying to steal a traffic cone, but I think he got away with it.

Certainly, the "eaterie" seems a frequent venue in gangland
murders. Perhaps it's the feeling there is a certainty the intended victim will be there and their "guard" may be down,
allowing the job to be done. In Galante's case, I recall that he was eating in an area behind and beyond the indoor section of that particular Italian restaurant and that his
assailants shot him there. Others have been disposed of in the
process of arriving (or leaving?) such a venue. Even the film "The Godfather" used a restaurant setting for the scene
of Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) shooting the corrupt police officer played by Sterling Hayden. The practice doesn't reflect well on fabled Italian hospitality!!.

Now we have new neighbours with tidy gardens, and we only get the odd one.

It's childhood experiences... And your upbringing that mold you and make you the person you become.
I was brought up in a household where drink was always present.
I wouldn't say it did me no harm, but I wouldn't be who I am today if not for it.
I try to make a positive out of a negative.

I try, Stephen, but most of the time I'm grumpy when I write. And when I try to be optimistic or write Three Good Things, I sound unbalanced. Maybe I'll try to write some lighthearted satire to see how that goes.
Thanks everyone, for reading.

JC - I assume you refer to the "campaign" by family and friends of
eponymous East End blagger in the "George Davis is innocent,
OK" escapades - digging up and spreading oil on sacrosanct
test cricket pitches. He was released (but not pardoned) in 1976
and in 1978 was caught in the act by the Flying Squad when
another taking part in another "across the pavement" job near the BBC here in central London. There was a memorable press photo
of him being pinned face down on the pavement by his captors.
I don't recall the caption but it didn't include the words "innocent,
OK" 😃
