Love this... such an interesting analogy...

'My mind, like my microwave
Is efficient
it pings like the oven does
when it gets a new idea.
However,
Just like the sticky glass platter stalls,
on lonesome obstacles
In this merry go round of thought,
So do I.'

So true... and most powerful lines:

'for far too long the far and protracted society
cannot sustain.
And so planet earth its threadbare vein runs red
For you scratched it
And a little scratch it was
Seasons came in floods
And drought ran dry
Until nothing but the glades free of man.'

I shop at marks and spencers all the time. I find this an insult to St Michaels label. I'm getting on a bit and I use them and I have no problem using them, and yes, I can do it one handed now.

Good poem pete, had me smiling.

Be well blue.

Hello Isobel. Oh what an elegy for abandoned hope. It reminds me somehow of wrens nesting. The male builds two nests and the female decides which she likes. One nest is often less well made and more open to the elements than the other. The male wren isn't going to waste his time twice. He's maybe already decided and the element of choice is simply a ritual and a blatant lie.

From a literary point of view, i feel that it could flow a little better. The content is all good, and a very thoughtful poem. I really like the last line which sums up a lot of feeling at the moment. 'That our suspicions aren't limited to what we know.' Nice one blue. be well

Hi yosh man, tis not a bad effort, but in the words of my old teacher, you must try harder lol. Dont worry, not to be taken too literally, you can always tell me to rack off. I would suggest though, that you try and elaborate or write about other lines of enquiry as well, perhaps in different forms and methods. The content is good, but spice will keep the reader engaged. Just my own thoughts, for example, its nice to see the love poetry you sometimes share as it comes as a breath of fresh air. Having said all that, maybe i too should take note of the words i have written here. I suppose we are reflecting what is, a time of uncertainty. Keep writing blue. Be well, Mike

We are born to a history that seems unfathomable in its maleovalence (did i spell that right). I for one cannot blame mother Earth for purging us extinct. Maybe now is a time of reckoning, and if mother earth be true, despite the love she may have of us mere humans, we are no good for this earth while we continue in the strain we do. Always a pleasure hearing your words chris. Played this one a couple of times and i cannot fault it. You're and inspiration and a teaching. be well

Thanks Winston.
Never expected such a reaction! Wrote it as a homework exercise. Ie. to write a piece in imitation of, or responding to the work of Walt Whitman, it being his 190th birthday this May. He wrote a piece called Salut au Monde. I thought I’d see what would happen if I didn’t mention Whitman in my blog. Found it very hard to get my head around his style, fortunately the safe delivery of a little grandson provided some inspiration.

Very nice Chris! There are so many theories, out there, as to how the earth is doing, how we are doing, how together we destroy eachother. The temps gettting hotter/colder, it can make a person dizzy, and if they only listen to one side, can make them crazy.Balance is the only answer. Then while reading your poem I pick up on a sort of one world thinking, as in positive thinking can heal the earth, and I believe in that to a point, however much evil must be over come, to make the positive a reality. I have heard we are like a parisite, but I try and think positive, and feel compelled to believe we are called to much greater then we have done so far. But then whats the value of theories? Nice poem!

Brilliant yoshman, you can tell by the sombre undertone that this is a more thoughtful piece. And to be honest it is for its honesty and attitude, a lot more louder than some of your previous material. There is, as always, truth here that not many have the balls to state 'out loud', Nice one for having the balls. I really like this one from you.

I like this poem Melissa, not only because i can identify with the character walking the concrete mile while all around seem oblivious to your pain, but also, it gives a hint of foreboding, an intuition that seeks its freedom from a future not altogether clear of pain. Nice touch, however, as win says, there are rainbows, and all is not lost while the sun shines when rain pours. Nice one melissa

Thanks for reading Francine - you picked up on the most important part. The rest of the poem is just a build up to the end, the Opera House being an allegory for the failure of a grand design or plan. The poem was inspired by Steve Regan's 'Half a world and a lifetime away...' which deals with emigration amongst other things. Emigration can be a way of escaping - a vision of freedom elsewhere which doesn't always really exist - instead we swap one penal colony for another... To find real freedom you sometimes have to take more drastic steps.

HI Mike, Im not a pro, and dont get paid to read anything. But I enjoyed this, was a bit confused at times, but then Im an American, so whatever.I will say, it spoke to me, Im not a racist, but Im not blind either. I have been the beaten, due to my color in the 60s. I have forgiven, but others dont, and many persons have chips, that should not be there, but they place a burden upon themselves, for lives now past.I dont know how to take this one.No matter what I say, as an American Ill be roasted. I almost dont care anymore. HIstory is written by the winner of the war, lies are as deep as the ocean, and who gains by division? xx good poem!
