Manchester Ritz

Manchester Ritz

Manchester Ritz, the glam n' the glitz

dancehall days, it's a ballroom blitz!

sticky carpets, sweaty armpits

see her dress, it just about fits

have a dance, or prop up the bar

glittering balls, a dancefloor star

see that girl, I can see her bra

watch her move, she's the best by far

sexy girls, crazy drunken nights

low cut tops, miniskirts and tights

ask her to dance, the time is right

too much lager, a handbag fight

80's disco, no Hip Hop or Rap

I've had a few beers, I'm talking crap

where's your girl, she's with that chap

I gave her a grope, she gave me a slap!

It's getting late, I'm feeling stoned

I'm seeing double, I've lost my phone

last dance done, I'm all alone

the taxi's here, take me home...

Nice one Jeff. saw Peter Green here a few years ago now. Got Cozy Powells autograph (Yes I am that sad) and 1 week later he died! Great poem, not so great a place. Winarama

Hi Jeffarama,
Reading this was like the proverbial two fingers down the back of the throat - in that it brought everything back! As a sometime 80's DJ myself, I can easily recall all that you have shoehorned into this short and sweet "sepia" cameo of that particular era - and what fun it was too!
Regards,
A.E.

Enjoyed hearing this at Wigan. Very funny, very now as well as then - you just need some silver platform boots to complete the picture.

Hi Jeff,
i enjoyed this poem at Middleton.
Glad you blogged it to show the rhythm in writing. Nice one!

Sorry, can't be at Wigan Saturday. Some of us need to be earning, not spending.
Maybe in another realm or time warp.
Good luck though. ( sorry to tell you Bolton will lose.) :-)
