Thank you Anthony for providing the story around your poem. You have a true gift with words. Your poem was excellent, sad, compassionate and memorable. I know Neil Moss will forever be in my thoughts from now on.

This is a weird one John - as I could only expect from you! At least blame seems to be sqarely on man's shoulders with a poor throat slashed Pandora lying in a pool of blood...blood on his hands indeed...
An interesting take - the earth coming out to swallow man up - aint that just a prophecy?

No, but that's where this came from - a friend was having a bad time and she told me that she pulled over and listened to music and watched the moon. So I wrote it for her to cheer her up.

Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to read and comment. A sequel? Argh, don't think i'm up to that!!As for apologising, well, i think it's in my nature to say for sorry for most things i do! The stuff i write just seems to be there and i kinda feel like a fraud when people comment positively on them. I suppose i should just say ta and get on with it ha ha.
Thank you for a lovely comment x

Hi Kath,

I missed this somewhere in the "Pandora" mix - so apologies for not commenting earlier. This is a great exercise in imagination and building up a picture and mood. I think you could do well to think about a sequel to this - the ending seems to suggest it. And I don't think it's a "sort of" - it's your story, your take on the theme. Never apologise for what you write!

Regards,
A.E.

I love the honesty of this piece.
the language is beautiful. especially loved the lines:
"No thought can form while she has not spurned
all I can do is hang myself on her polite decline"
the defeatism (sp?) is so brave, I lost myself in this completely. excellent.

Have you ever drunk WD40 mixed with wine and tried to say "And now the words keep tumbling out just fine?"

Tee hee - was never good at maths...
Re the audio - it is probably only worth fiddling round as an experiment if it is easy for you to do so. It is far better with the echo than without - a sound effect that really fits a purpose. You may find it works better all the way through - it was just an idea... x

Thanks Rodney. If I do that though it becomes less a poem and more a piece of prose. it's just a snapshot - a glimpse across a landscape at something(one) beautiful...or supposed to be

The mountain: readers choice - but carrying on from the opener, I hope that people will connect the two (especially the shape) and think nose.

Sam Cooke - everything he sang was with dignity, especially for the time. Hear whatever you would like - I hear 'Change gonna come'! Nothing is better than Sam Cooke singing that, not even the sky.

Cheers

Nash

Like this but it seems a bit hurried and there's perhaps more of your voice to put in, and perhaps a few details eg the mountain's broken it's leg, what was Sam Cooke singing? why was it dignified? etc

Hi Barrie, theres a lot to think about in this one. A lot of moral and religious dilemmas highlighted here. I think this is a very brave poem and not one a lot would tackle. I only know one thing, the human race is very unlikely to "die out from a progeny dearth." The way mankind is increasing its more likely we`ll die out because this mother earth cant sustain us.... then God can "inherit the earth."
A thought provoking poem
Cate xx

What an interesting poem! Somehow it sounds as if it was written by Renfield, a character who makes a very brief appearance in the book Dracula. But he eats flies. But I think he might cry about them too!

AND ANOTHER THING! ;-) In Poetess, the verse I don't like so much and would have cut, Chris Dawson (whose opinion I very much value) says she likes that bit the best. So what's a girl to do?? Maybe it's best to write then leave for a month then take another look, but I simply cannot do that. When I write something I like to get it out there, then it's on to the next one.

Hi Anthony.
Thanks for comment on Pandora's Box. While you were commenting I was reading your poem about Neil and went on to read his story. Both pieces are so engaging and sensitively written. Something I shall read again I am sure.
I have a tragic story to tell from years gone by that affected my family. Will probably post it in August.
Best wishes. Dave

Hi Gus - thank you for commenting on Poetess. Editing (editting?) scares the whatever out of me, I don't know why but that's probably a common thing with newish poets who haven't studied writing poetry. It's the fear of losing the good bits perhaps. If I try and edit this one, may I put it here as a comment on your profile page and see what you think? Or is there an editing school I can go to! ;-) xx
