na thats pretty much it. The longing for change and the helplessness of akcnowledging it's failing to happen.

Love it. Identify with so many things.
Feeling like its ok to be me, no matter what I've talked about, no matter what life threw at me.
And, "counting the steps
From the door to my car" mmmm yeah controlling the little things...

Me too. Bugger culture, that's what I say! Excellent yarn.
I did some work in Hungary a while ago where they have carp for Xmas dinner. They also keep it in the bath from mid December onwards. Every now and then they hit it with a stick to "purge" it as it is an earthy fish, which distresses the fish and causes it to, well, purge.
Thoroughly enjoyed this, L.

Yeah it's funny what people perceive when they see you in however innocent an act!
Think I expressed a similar thing at SW last Tuesday with the poem I shared, "Singular" shame really that with awareness comes loss of innocence in many ways!

Dear Cynthia. I did blog 'Love is' once before, early last year, but got cold feet and deleted it within a few hours and before anyone had commented.
I enjoyed writing it, but I don't think it hangs together as a poem...it's more a collection of nice ideas.
You know, I've only just realised this moment that...
'Love starts with a smile
and becomes a wildflower
tucked behind your ear.'
is a Haiku. Blimey!
Winston, are you watching?
:-)
Thank you for your kind comments.

Hi Greg, Thanks for your comment on 'The Mackerel', also thanks for leading me to your work. I love your nod in the direction of John Lennon. To our generation he was William Brown grown up and brought to life!

Not quite sure it was too happy as they both didn't seem to reach their o's. Neither did the truck driver for that matter. Such a waste of effort on their part. It seems only your poetry gave justice to their misadventure.

Thanks Cynthia for jumping into that poem about fading memories. I know I am not the easiest poet to read and I usually take the flack for that but I am deeply appreciative of your tenacity in grappling with the poem. Yes, it could be rain and it could be water pouring and splashing from an industrial tap. The simmering is the interaction with spending time in the baking sun and the splashing water that cooks and simmers 'memories' per se as they travel downward (with the help of gravity) and instead of pooling and puddling trickles away, thus fading off.... that can be a relief (ergo 'joy') or it can be a tragic reality of aging in an often uncaring world. Of course there is much room for interpretation as I aim not to tightly word my poems so as to restrict readers to an intended meaning. I am only too happy with a reader's construction from the verses as they work themselves into an individualised awareness and realisation. Again, thank you.

Thanks Jane for your read and comment. The curious thing about "joy" in this poem stems from two things, the first - it is an inversion that allows stark contrast to the tone and feel of the poem, and second - there is a maudlin tragic joy, a sort of fool's consolation vaguely alluded to but not emphatically espoused by the poem. I am quite pleased that you picked up on that seeming contradiction. Whether intended or not, it allows for the reader to make their own conclusion.

Hello Foxy,
Seems I've been a bit heavy-handed with my bloggin'.
I don't think the site firewalls and stuff could cope with my formula! It kept telling me my posting had failed so I just kept sending it!
Anyway, the sums add up!

Gemma, great impact with this really 'Mancy' poem. "depression clings to the buildings" and "And I cry like it hurts when I feel all alone" are lines composed of simple words to give a shakingly powerful read. Thankyou for posting, Win x

Hi Gemma. Saying I'm glad you've continued with the mental health theme may not be appropriate as no doubt you wish things were otherwise. But they have been very good poems saying things that need saying, demanding understanding and empathy from the reader. Thank you.

Found a lot to identify with in this. Like Rachel - never skipped away from therapist's office. I went for about 3 years - still have mixed feelings about how useful it was. I daresay several peeps that know me would say - it was a waste of time. :)
The line that 'got' me the most was: And I cry like it hurts when I feel all alone
It's a bleak line, but sums up the poem for me ... the pain and the looking for an answer. Difficult emotions to get down on paper - well done.

I've had to flick back and forth a few times to see the difference between these two poems. The ending to the poppies one brings in the idea of our own mortality in a lovely gentle way. I feel like I want to switch the first verse with the other poem though. It's like the first verses have got mixed up.
Lovely flow to it. The exercise illustrates nicely how just a couple of words can so change the sense of a poem. x
