Thanks, Graham. This was a slightly flippant poem on a serious subject. I think that you cite the challenges accurately. More than ever, I think that we have to rely on expertise and real people (not always easy to tell, I grant you) who do proper research. I put the picture of the US Capitol on because it seems to be full of people who are mired in conspiracy theories: election denial, climate change denial and belief that vaccines are developed by the government to rot your brain.
And 'alternative facts' was popularised by the Trump administration to support all sorts of lies.
John - yes, I overlooked that one. Where is David Icke when you need him?
And my thanks to Nigel, Holden, Stephen A, Pete, K Lynn and Rob.

On the off chance of me fighting and dying for my country (not so remote perhaps in the current climate) I will happily agree to some of my taxes being used for a memorial to 'citizens brought up as Christian but who gradually became complete non-believers'.

They were very woke in Surrey, even back then. It was restored a few years ago as a 'peace garden' by the Horsell Common Preservation Society, a notorious extremist group of the kind that Michael Gove may well be seeking to proscribe.
Included in 'The Fall of Singapore' collection (Dempsey & Windle, 2022)

Thanks for the update Tom and so pleased that you hadn't deleted it
When you had removed it I wasn't able to comment in time as I can now now that youhave confirmed it WAS your poem.
A truly fabulous piece surprisingly bereft of being flooded with comments? ( meant with respect )
Regards matey!

Thanks John, it was my mum’s favourite too - partly because my Dad was colour blind & could only see yellow and blue - I keep trying to establish a bank of them, but it’s not so easy. They grow best in the wild I think!

Not overly sentimental at all, David. Which of us can say we were better without our woman? I’m sure she appreciated it, David. A lovely gift, (and cheaper than flowers!)

Lovely sonnet, RAP. Enjoy the contrasting descriptions of Spring - sunlight, regeneration “wind ripped sky”. And of course my favourite garden flower (well, it’s cultivar at least!)

Thanks Ray, and thank you to Leon and Holden for the flowers.
I have written similar bits before but it's often too personal to share and sometimes feels strangely inappropriate. Some people are a little squeamish about love scribbles, I think I often am...but then sometimes it's sod it...hit the send button and be damned.
There is still a reluctance among many (men in particular) to express feelings of love, I believe we should probably do so more.
David.

Terribly sad and pogniant poem.
To touch someone's injury (whether physical or otherwise) can be a healing moment, at the very least a moment of compassion and understanding.
Heartfelt poem of compassion.

I think uncertainty will be the downfall of civilisation in the endgame, whenever that comes.

Dear, John! Do you remember me? I am lost. I haven't been here for so many years and now I need your help. My good friend Dave Dqnn has passed away. You are the only one here I can ask for help. Please, answer. Here is my email:

Thanks to those who sent flowers.
I wasn't aware the Kenova report was to be published today. Its reading and relaying of such treachory sickens me to my stomach.
The trail of unnecessary dead needs to be accounted for by those responsible for failings and negligence on all sides. All of what has been released has been known by those involved and the powers that be for decades.
May that never happen again in my lifetime in my Country (or any other) it quite easily could, that is a problem.
