Very sad Phil. It`s a common problem for those later in life to lose their partner, leaving them to face living alone in an increasing alien society.

thanks Pete, i did realize it isn't about you this time or indeed any one person in particular.
That's what i like about it amongst other things.
As you know, all readers will "see" and "take" from any poem the things they can relate to or below the surface.
There's hidden depth to much of your work and i particularly enjoy your comparisons between the animals/birds and human nature aspect.
Love, light and peace to you for 2009,
Janet.x

This reminds me of a very emotionally moving film i once watched but a reversal of roles.
In the film, the main character was in what he considered to be his "death bed" when he sensed a presence in the room.
His words were :-
" I cannot see you but i know you're there."
In the next scene, the presence manifested.

Janet,
first of all, a Happy New Year to you sweetie popple xxx.
I am very touched that you take time to read and comment on peoples work. I'm especially pleased that you have chose this poem. In the up and down times of being creative, im sure that you know how difficult it can be to get a feeling across sometimes. You have to take that concentrated feeling and expand it, not too much, not too little but enough to convey the ideas, images and feeling. Its easy to became stuck into our own niche, for example my rant poetry, or even my getting old poetry.
It is very much like the experts have taught us in group sessions or by tutorials, poetry whilst can be a vehicle for our own catharsis, the real stuff comes from outside, or at least enough to get away from ones self and let the outer world in.
I hope i'm making sense.
the 'carrion bird' he is out there, as is the farmer, its not about me this time Janet.

Happy new year to you.

it was inspired by a journey to Carlisle (settle carlisle railway)
the ravenesque birds were getting quite tame to the farmer
the farmers life (at least from the carriage window) seemed meagre somehow, its so cold out there
i try and write what I like to read
thanks CJD and Carole

You'll notice there's no quorn in the poem!

Cheers for the comments over Perfect Place and Windowscreens.. I like to leave things a bit vague on my poetry sometimes on purpose, and in some cases like Windowscreens I like to do character pieces (My brother is not like that!) lol

Was blown away by 'Season to Taste' - atmospheric, weird, deliciosly lurid and with more than a faint whiff of lurking laughing evil intent. To go to the lengths of sewing stings into your victim's dental floss!
I feel I must learn more about rhubarb - as to 'its dark green to keep your sleep sound' properties
- will look out for any sound gigs you're doing in this vein - as always with clever touches.
and with all that septic sauce and frothed spit and phlegm you MUST, youMust...,..............'xcuse me.(I've got to make it in time to the sink, or maybe there's a large bucket to hand..)

Hi Andy RE - Pictures on Window Screens. This poem says what I have been thinking on and off for a long time but with a difference. I often wonder at thi little things in life. the ants, the tiny flowers, the lichens. get close and they are amamzing (sorry , gettling all sloppy here) then bosh a dirty great big boot destroys all that perfection in an instant without a care and without insight. In your poem the difference is the beauty is also man made as well as the destruction (the wiping away) It captures that b..b..b..but instant before thewipe nicely as that info is only contained in the last two lines.
Another point - Isn't a window screen a mesh screen that keeps out flies and a windscreen the glass in a car? might want to consider this or tell me I have it all wrong. Winston

Well deserved poem of the month. Now THIS is poetry of a personal nature. The powerful juggernaut of a serious illness met head on by your determination, I would like to join the others below in wishing you all the best for 2009 and beyond. Hope to see / hear you soon.

Oh yes, indeed this is a wonderful tribute for Phil in the start of another new year.
Fantastic choice Sean!
More than anything else in this sometimes dreary world we ALL need hope and Phil displays this and determination to overcome his obstacles he knows he needs to face.
Here's wishing you many more happy and pain free tomorrows Phil.
Love and light, Janet.x

I enjoyed this poem. I have to say my olnly time ever in a Travel Lodge, was as a child, over here you can count on them being clean and affordable. I can remember staying in them as they had a bear for their mascot. Other then that hotel a Best Western was considered good at the time and a step up. When the whole family would hop in the family van for a summer trip, it was those hotels we stayed in. I hope not all wives lie.If they do, I wonder why they feel they cant trust, who they are with?Whats a shag bag? I understand shag, but not the bag part. Why cant people just love eachother and be faithful?Im having heart troubles tonight. I have to go lay down xx

I found this poem a humbling experience to read - how quickly we forget how fortunate we really are...
So many images in this work Phil -
the one that stands out for me at this point has to be -
My future, a huge metal climbing frame
Twisted into impossible shapes
great choice Sean, thank you Phil.
