Last Day Of March

The last day of March brings us
a mix of snow, sleet and sun
The day before April fools
seems to be having some fun

We put our warm coats on
and then take them off again
Take a seat outdoors
only to be caught out by the rain

This time of year, the weather
constantly changes it’s mind
There’s no sure way of knowing
what elements you may find

Temperatures fall below freezing

Gratitude Gallery

Ukraine crisis, PM crisis
Fuel bill crisis, Food cost crisis
Covid crisis , Health care crisis

Sometimes the news is just too much
impossible for us to bare
Sometimes we just have to switch off
but this doesn’t mean we don’t care

Sometimes I take myself away
from the constant distressing news
Sometimes its good to take a break
from the persistent crisis blues

Even the weather ...

New Spring Lambs

New spring lambs at play baa and bleat
joyful, cheerful, playful
wonderful, delightful
gambolling, frolicking
cavorting, rollicking
springing, leaping, romping
prancing, frisking, jumping
tired new spring lambs now fast asleep

Colours Of Spring

A beautiful afternoon stroll
under azure blue, cloudless skies
The churchyard full of spring colour
a wonderful treat for the eyes

The delicate pink blossom tree
a prominent star of the show
While the carpet of daffodils
dazzle us with their golden glow

The crocus are slightly fading
hues of purple, yellow and whi...

Micheal And Vernon

I try to write a little poem
for each and every day
I write about the day’s events
people or things that come my way

On radio two this morning
I was listening to Vernon Kay
His show was full of joy and laughter
a great way to start the day

The star guest was amazing
this poem goes out to him today
So good to ...

Hedgehogs

Spring is well and truly springing
and brighter, lighter days are here
Colourful trees and flowers bloom
bringing us all much needed cheer

Mothere Nature is at her best
at this wonderful time of year
But…
the sight that makes me most happy
is seeing my hedgehogs reappear

The Baltic Way

Today I learned of an event
from August 1989
It was named The Baltic Way
a peaceful protest of it’s time

Two million people formed a line
united as they all joined hands
A 600km human chain
reached across the Baltic lands

In their efforts towards freedom
they forged this emotive display
Independence came to the Baltics
influenced by actions that day

This image made me stop an...

Mother’s Day

To all the wonderful Mums out there
Happy Mother’s Day to you
Today we show our appreciation
for everything you do

On this day cards, gifts and messages
will be sent across the nation
Each family has their own special way
to mark this celebration

This time may be difficult for those
whose loved ones are no longer here
Some will remember special moments
shared with loved ones they h...

Mythical Landscape

A beautiful scene like a fairytale
familiar shapes in magical disguise
Swans gliding as curious silhouettes
play a will-o'-the-wisp trick on my eyes

A dawn full of mystery and intrigue
as the sun rises in a shrouded world
Creating this mythical new landscape
as a brand new day begins to unfurl

The Tale Of Covid 19 (repost)

Should have been posted yesterday to mark the second anniversary of the first lockdown. A reminder of those bizarre times.

The tale of Covid 19, what a story to be told
When nature said enough's enough and put the world on hold
Mother Earth took a break, to revitalise and renew
Taught us all a lesson, to give respect when it is due

Along came a virus almost impossible to beat
The wor...

Two Years On

Two years on since the first lockdown
remember those covid blues?
We all moaned about the new rules
and constant pandemic news

But two years on and with hindsight
there were some positives too
The pace of life slowed down
nowhere to go and nothing to do

Of course there were some dark, dark days
too much loss, grief and sadness
Difficult lessons were learned
as we muddled through ...

Daffodil

Daffodil growing on the hill
Proud, loud, bobbing, nodding
Tall, small, slender, tender
Gold, bold, mellow yellow
Light, bright, creamy, dreamy

Amelia

From a basement bunker in Kyiv
she sang the words to “Let it go”
At just seven years old
little Amelia, put on quite a show

Her songs kept people entertained
as their world came crashing down
Praised for her brave resilience
as Russians bombed her hometown

With her grandmother and siblings
she fled to a foreign land
They crossed over the border
to the safe haven of Poland

Poet Tree

Can it really be two years
since that little seed was sown
Looking back through the seasons
now I see how much it’s grown

I feed it every day
when I can find the time
Two years of watching it grow
recorded in riddle and rhyme

Now I have grown a small tree
with memories for its roots
It’s branches reach out wide
always cheered to find new shoots

It has large, shady green leaves

Flag Flying High

Today spring has finally sprung
in shades of yellow and blue
A carpet of wild flowers grows
blossoms and blooms fresh and new

The golden sun shines brightly
in the clear cerulean sky
The colours of this spring day
mirrored in the flag flying high

How Lucky We Are

A picturesque walk today
pretty, peaceful and serene
We counted the new born lambs
in vast fields of emerald green

We glimpsed birds and butterflies
flutter by on the cool breeze
Sunshine dazzled our view
flickering through budding trees

A carpet of spring flowers
glowed yellow, purple and white
Soaking up golden sun rays
before the darkness of night

Just a couple of hours...

Swan Lake Landing

There is something magnificent
about seeing a swan in flight
Equal parts graceful and wonder
they appear so agile and light

He circles the lake runway
lining up a perfect landing spot
Touching down with elegant class
like a professional pilot

Two News Stories

Tears of joy
tears of sadness
Scenes of hope
scenes of madness

The news today
brings these things
My head spins
and my heart sings

A mothers face
full of glee
A welcome hug
now she’s free

Years of hurt
now in the past
Happy days
are here at last

Pain and sorrow
death and grief
War crime acts
beyond belief

Bombs and bullets
stress and strife
Mass destruction

Bow And Bob

Recently we have been lucky to see
beautiful, crystal clear spring skies
As the darkness of night  slowly gives way
to the most spectacular sunrise

An eerie mist rises from the lake
against the backdrop of budding trees
They bow and bob down to the sun god
as they catch on the delicate breeze

Dawn Chorus

We wake to a delightful sound
before the alarm clock starts to ring
The melody of the dawn chorus
is phenomenal in early spring

A symphony of wild bird songs
comes from blackbirds, robins and thrushes
attracting mates and defending territories
from budding trees and bushes

Make Pizza Not War

Four volunteers from Perthshire
travelled 2,600 miles to Poland
They made it to the Ukraine border
after three days just as they planned

Offering free pizza and hot drinks
they set up a pop up take away
To bring some comfort to refugees
they all work tirelessly night and day

They are doing such a grand job
David Fox-Pitt, a true gentleman
When asked, what can people do to help?

Black And White

Brave men stay to fight
brave women flee their homeland
Brave, bewildered children
cling to their mother’s hand

Train station platforms
cannot hold one person more
Comparable to scenes
from the Second World War

Harrowing images
edited black and white
People seeking safety
congregate day and night

On the westbound platforms
they huddle together
In harsh conditions

The Piano

She returns to what was once her home
now a shadow of how it used to be
A scene of war ravaged destruction
devastating and traumatic to see

She steps over once prized possessions
which now lay broken and scattered around
Doors which have been ripped from their hinges
now lie strewn haphazardly on the ground

Besides the shattered, blown out windows
and surrounded by internal debris

Once

It was once a safe and happy place
where babies would take their first breath
Now it lies in rubble and ruin
a scene of destruction and death

Once a place for great celebrations
where families flourished and formed
Now it lies as an empty shell
a scene where the rage of war has stormed

Once the cries of a new born child
were the only woeful sounds to hear
Now it rings with the s...

Two Weeks Ago

Images come from underground
in the shelters of Ukraine
A place where women take cover
from the ruthless, deadly rain

A teenager dances ballet
and a young girl sings her song
A woman plays the piano
sobbing as she sings along

Two young girls and their mother
huddled together through the night
Their faces show dread and fear
for the father who left to fight

Sights I thought I’d...

Double Take

The sun peeps over the horizon
before it’s full appearance is here
The scent of spring is in the air
as life bustles back into gear

A morning perfectly reflected
in the gently rippling lake
If you turn this image upside down
see it mirrored in a double take

Spring Blossom

Tentative bouts of spring blossom
gradually start to appear
The first ones scout out the season
and give the others the all clear

Our patience is rewarded
with this beautiful sight to see
Finally we get widespread bursts
of pink and white blooms on the tree

The sounds of amorous frogs
has been so loud and clear recently
Given space to do their thing
left to do what comes naturally

One of the most amazing sights
that comes along this time of year
A thousand micro miracles
waiting to emerge and appear

Our pond is full of new life
we hope that many will survive
Like proud parents we will be
ready to greet them when they arrive

A Tale To Tell (repost)

Every day I attempt to create a little poem or write

it is left online for others to read anytime, day or night

What is printed and shared can never be unseen or unread

it could stay there for ever, maybe, long after I am dead

Some days it is best, if I don't share my story this way

when I don't care to be reminded of the events of the day

Most days I just write do...

Dancing Ducks

Basking in golden sunlight
this beautiful morning view
The day gently awakens
to skies of warm honey hue

Silhouettes of dancing ducks
across the water they glide
Territorial quibbles
sending ripples far and wide

This scene comforts and reassures
brings some much needed cheer
It carries a sense and feeling
that spring will soon be here

It’s A Rich Man’s World (Or Is It)

A slightly amended version of Money, Money, Money from August 2020

I bet all of you
wish you could be me
Perched high and mighty
master of the sea
I look down on those poor souls
who have not
From the swish pool
aboard my mega yacht

I bet all of you
wish you could be me
I can have anything
I want you see
Anything money can buy
I can choose
I win at life but….
I can afford to lo...

Fear And Dread

Words I heard on the news last night
as I watched from the comfort of my bed
“Today sirens wail in deserted streets
............that echo fear and dread”

I didn’t need to open my eyes
I could see the images in my head
I didn’t need to see the haunting scenes
that accompanied the words she said

The courage of the Ukraine people
is reported each moment of each day
Due to the braver...

until the train is far out of sight

Father stays on to fight the brave fight

For the first time in their family life
they will not be together tonight
