Circe's Antidote

Circe’s Antidote

you crawl from the damp earth
where we buried you last year
your gnarled fingers scraping
away from the soil
reaching for the skies
who tip their tears upon your
outstretched pleading aspirations
dying ice crystals melt around
your roots chilling your heart
turning your petals to snow
you dance a lazy swaying waltz
urged on by an insistent breeze
blanching the green...

Winter's debate with spring

So quiet and peaceful

the snow

The monochrome light

shimmering on late

crystaline forms

The seasons

debate

argue

press their agendas

Winter does not wish to

awake

Spring fears

the responsibility of birth

The snow settles quietly

into nightfall.

Morning tells.

Spring Tanka

A winter bite that

mocks the spring, pincers its cocoon.

A life supported?

Cease one's internal decay,

Even ice melts. Love's fluidity.

and if he’s lucky

the jackdaws bruised the garden today

borrowing sticks, stealing hay

the sticks we can eventually have back they say

once seasoned by the summer’s fray

I tell them they can keep them anyway

THE PRIMROSE - a reprint

As Spring does its best to break through, here's a reminder of life renewed.

...........................................................................................

Peeping from beneath the tree,

The lemon primrose spoke to me.

Winter's done, I heard it say,

Warmer days are on the way.

Mother Nature waits with glee,

The First Rose is my name, you see;

W...

Winter’s War

Winter’s War
by, Melissa R. Mendelson

The fog rolls between the war
of winter and sun,
silencing the deafening roar of defeat
as snow becomes rain.
March was always the lion
tearing ground with bitterness,
frost over hope,
but now it’s a leopard
with solar flare spots.
And the fog rolls on
between the divide
of how things were
and how they should be,
but the ti...

March Is In Love

Winter was admired by March all night

He walked with her along the snowy paths

But her daughter captivated his sight,

With her he dreamed to have the baths.

In ruffled feelings he came back in the mornings

Becoming tipsy of the night’s vision.

He didn’t care about any warnings.

And his fate had quite another decision.

His darling was the spring ...
