Hello Cynthia
Thankyou for you kind words - about my poem and my poetry group!
It is great fun having a monthly poetic get-together but I think I'm probably more highly valued as an organiser than as a poet - but hey, I'll take whatever appreciation I'm given in life!
Best wishes.
Richard

Hi Phillip
Just came across your poem "Fishing For Fella's" which caught my eye because the title's very similar to one of mine called "Fishing for Poets".
My poem is autobiographical and I was the victim but I like your poem because you show the situation from another angle.
Thankyou for posting it up, it was good to read.

Thanks for the comment on my profile picture, Stu. I sketched that years ago when I was spending much too much time in solitude and it is one of the few things that survived my return to the world.
I hope things are going well with your writing, fella..it's very good to hear from you.

Hi Wendy.
Thanks for commenting on my latest story about Fred Floppit. He was a pensioner when I was a kid, but his escapades were legendary in the village where I grew up.

Hi Adam
Thankyou for 'Liking' my poem ('The Last Train').
I confess that I was wondering whether anybody on this website ever read the poems written and presented by others from outside their usual orbit!
You have re-assuerd me - thankyou.

The hard hitting truth is all the trouble with taxis and young girls being abused was happening and reported in 1991 in Hx when we were fostering troubled girls and then in later years their remarks were We know to do things better now .i don't think so . Thank you Harry for your kind comment on 'Gethsemane'. None of us need ask for whom the bell tolls. It tolls for us. The modern equivalent of the international brigades are the young men and women from the UK and elsewhere who make the hazardous journey to N Iraq to fight with the Kurdish YPG against the fascists of Daesh and sometimes don't come home. As was the case with 22 year old Birkenhead volunteer, Luke Rutter, who fell in the attack on Raqqa in July 2017.
Good luck in all you do, Harry!
John

And you really, really must write, about anything and everything, long ones, short ones, funny ones, sad ones, personal ones, social ones, etc. and etc. Be sure to keep a special 'notebook'. Read a lot of other people's works too, here on WOL, and even in books, from all countries and periods. Books still have a lot to offer; they haven't quite passed on like dinosaurs.
Welcome to WOL. Enjoy blogging and reading our poems, and commenting too.
Your poem on this page is really fine, full of extensive awareness and thought, just what a poet must have.

The list you have seen is the first list of poets that was printed and since then I was told you were being added on
along with another poet not in our group.
We have a meeting on the Monday night for W O L just before the event on the Wednesday and I am sure this new list will be confirmed on the night!

Stuart, there is no Sale poetry evening in August; it is a 'holiday' month for the MC's. For us all. At least, that's what I understand. Just in case you were planning to join us again, please double check.
And thanks for your supportive comments, always.

I'm on line for just a few minutes, Jane, but wanted to thank you for your comment on 'The Farmer's Wife'. Welcome to WOL. I know you will enjoy the experience.
I note that we have a similar background (not archaeology, mind you, except through books and TV features on my part). I smiled when I read you have also been in a 'craft' business. It takes a certain kind of heart and mind and patience to 'make things'. But the result is so personally uplifting. ''I made this!'' I would still like to try pottery some day - producing something functional, yet lovely to look at, or to hold. I like the idea of something in the head flowing through the fingers. Which, really, is a lot like writing, isn't it?
You might enjoy my poem, 'The Question' - a few weeks back - with the Yorkshire connection.

Hi everyone! Nicola very kindly offered me her 'slot' at Marple (if my work was accepted). I sent 3 samples of my work on 27 July, and e-mailed again today to see if they were happy with what I'd sent. The e-mail came back "cannot connect etc etc" so I am wondering if either of my messages got through! Nicola, you very kindly gave me the address: a.barlow@matthewjamespublishing - should there have been a dot.uk or dot.com at the end??? Any help anyone can give would be very much appreciated! - thanks, Dorinda.not so hi-tech.help!!! X

I'm not familiar with the Stevie Wonder song you mention. I'll keep a 'heads up' for it, as he is still a fave artist in our family. And the thought is so similar.
Apparently, many of my ideas are quite similar to Cohen's work as well. Other writers have noticed this. And I'm not that knowledgeable about his 'philosophy', in general.
But I've decided that many minds must just work in similar paths. And that makes sense. How original is it possible to be! I never 'copy' and I don't worry anymore either.
Enjoy your writing. It will be a life-long blessing to you.

Raj, will you please check out my poem 'The Question', (not too far back). I so want to put 'wolf' as the final word, as in 'we so need an alpha wolf', not 'star'. Whichever word I choose, it is the ultimate 'impact of intent'. I had 'wolf'; I want 'wolf', but I'm being pinched by some kind of argument of what is 'worldly' and what is 'lordly'. Or fact versus fantasy. I'd like your input. For me, the poem 'hangs in my head', because I feel phoney about the ending.
You're a thinker. Why did I change it? This is a serious question.
