Hey Antionio, I like this piece a lot, it has a great flow that forces the reader into bouncing the words around a bit. I like that quality as it slows you down and makes you take greater notice of the theme.

This really moved me - been there - only with me I'm not so sure the end was natural. It sounds trite just to say this really moved me - but ... it really did and I can't think of anything more I want from a poem like this other than that profound connection.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the comments.

The reason that Goliath smiled is that in this poem Goliath represents Hamas, Islamic Jihad, the Al Aqsa Brigades and other militant fragments who fight the Israelis in the name of Palestinian resistance. What the poem is saying is that the huge weight of Israeli bombs and missilses will create more determination among the friends, relatives and comrades of those who have been killed to breed more resistance movements and new ways to strike the mighty David.

When the original Goliath was struck on the forehead by David's pebble he certainly did stay down (along with his 60 tons of armour) because David went and cut off his head with his own sword. Goliath in that story represented the Philistines. Ancient Philistia is the modern Gaza strip and the point being made is that cutting off Goliath's head about 3,000 years ago did not eliminate the Philistines. The Philistines (Palestinians) are now small and David (Israel) is mighty, but the slingshot is still a force to be reckoned with and David could fall along with his enormous armour.

Didn't Dylan say 'Everybody MUST get stoned?'

Hi Antonionioniiiiii

I like this poem. God seems to alter in apperance like languages across the world. I find it all so confusing. It's great when people, regardless of what they believe, don't really mention their faith or other and practice more in being kind to their fellow man. If only x

Your work is quite fascinating, though often uncomfortable to read. I get very strong, but dark, pictures in my head whilst reading them - almost like black and white films from the forties but crossed with cartoons. Sorry - can't quite fix on what I mean - definitely film-like qualities, definitely disturbing, anyway!

Hi Jon,Nice and interesting poem. I guess Im a fundemental retard.Im very happy with that. For me the virgin birth is a no point subject, and not worth words.Even if the writters of the bible put it there, its of no value. We all have the ability to have the spirit of Good within us, or the spirit of evil within us. The best trick ever, played on humans is the devil card, I have seen the devil/evil in humans, thus I, a retard believe hes/she is real. The energy comes from somplace. Thus it is real.Poor translations of the bible give the impression that the devil is below/ hell is below, but hell is here.Greed builds bombs, that can blow up the sun 7 times over.As long as greed rules the world, there will be bombs, and power hungry bankers, and liers. If we got rid of all those types of people, we could be one, and through poetry and music we are one to a point. Im not sure about the suction, my government sucks the people dry. good poem one that makes you think and wonder!

Hello David.

Yes, I'm off work at the moment with an injured arm, so I've got far too much time to sit watching the birds in the garden. I've got a regular flock of long-tailed tits that visits my feeder, and there's a red kite hanging around Harrogate at the moment that keeps flying over my house. It'll get a poem written about it if it's not careful! See you at WW sometime soon?

I wouldn't even try and impose my beliefs on someone else - not that I think I could.
I, too, related to this poem - just from a different perspective. I find it very difficult to separate the mechanics of the poetry from the subject matter, particularly one which appears to invite debate. If we're being strictly technical then this doesn't entirely conform to the standard sonnet form of ababcdcdefefgg with the last couplet providing a resolution .... a tall order that! - justify god's behaviour in two lines, make 'em rhyme - and don't forget ya iambic pentameter!
Cx
P.s. - really do enjoy your take on things Tony, and admire the way you can get it into 14 lines! :-)

In answer to the question about 'pyronoia'; yes i would love to work with someone to have this (amongst a few others) animated. i can envisage a kind of anime style:see. the end of akira perhaps? Also can I say I really dig 'DECREE NI'SI' very dry. It purposefully slows the train of thought down from a normal reading speed, to a much more contemplative tempo. Liking it.

Well, being a firm believer of the existence of One God for all, I was able to leave my own thoughts behind andd read this and still relate to it. I don't impose on anyone else so I don't expect the same from elsewhere and I read poetry as poetry (the creation of another's work)

I like this stuff and I think the poems are better formed than your others. The humour is good in this and worksI can relate to them as being a Muslim, I don't misuse any of the names from any religion. There is one 'Ya'Allah' which I hear people use which is 'Oh my God' and said in the same way.

Nice poem.

I wouldn't for the world want to offend you, or anyone else for that matter, my apologies if I have done. When it comes to the question of religious beliefs - I believe that we should both be free to believe whatever we wish and to express those beliefs.
As to your challenge to us non-believers
to prove their is no god, well - you can't prove a negative .... but I still look forward to the day when you can say to me 'See! Told you so!' :-)
Still think the last 2 lines need looking at.

At the risk of offending (which I always do TRY to avoid), and certainly going against the concensus of opinion here ... maybe there is no test ... maybe there is no being there to test us....maybe we're all just talking to ourselves? Anyway - whether or not we are just characters in some superior being's game of Sims is somewhat too big a subject to debate through the medium of a comment box. I liked the way the poem begins to ask questions, but then the last couple of lines seemed - to me - to belong to a different piece of work. Or maybe this one just ends too abruptly. First 12 lines - has this entity got a plan for us? Last 2 - hypocrisy of confession - big subject for 2 lines. Might have worked better with repentance than confession.
Just a thought.

Why is it that when things go wrong we think of life as a test but when they're going swimmingly well, we think of it as a welcome challenge.
If you think of God as being a father and you want him to embrace you then surely you should embrace life. Whatever!
Perhaps that's the test. Endurance and survival against all odds.
There's a song in there somewhere.
Maybe we just can't accept that there are things in life which are no longer relevant or valid so we plough on regardless and everyone concerned is unhappy, instead of coming to agreeable solutions. Like closing one door before we can open another.
Whoo! this poem has raised some issues Antonionioni!
When is a door not a door?
When it's a jar! (boom boom)

Thanks for this. Can i come back when i die and tell you if there is really a person called God in the heavens? Unless you die first of course in which case i give you permission to come back and tell me.
Janet.x
