Hi Anthony, I see that Simon Armitage has announced his itinerary for his south-west walk, and will be calling in at the Plough arts centre in Great Torrington, which I believe is your neck of the woods, on Tuesday September 3. Will you be going along, by any chance? http://www.writeoutloud.net/public/blogentry.php?blogentryid=38194

Hello Nigel,
I told you a few weeks ago that I have a risque but not very risque poem. It's titled "I Have the Right to Write." It's on my profile page.
Thanks,

Hi M.C.
I told you a few weeks ago that I had written a not so great poem telling people where they can kiss me. It's titled "I Have the right to Write."
Not a great poem but it express's my opinion.
Thanks,

Cy re ''Assignation'' you seem to be grasping here : ''This is very unusual, and very effective. IMO, the precise repetitions and small variations give a real feeling of fascination, almost voyeurism, and passing 'insignificance', like the movements of a crowd''. . .but, I love to be gripped by a mind...and I agree with you, but, I would add ''captivated''. thanks for the comments on 'Daniel....' Isobel.
Yes - a very disturbing and emotive topic - I wasn't sure whether it was an appropriate subject - but the news report made me so angry and helpless that I felt I needed to get something down as a statement - not sure if it's too morbid or frivolous - but it was written with good intentions

Harry - thanks for your comments on "The Racism One-Step" - written as a riposte to those who seem to think that racism only exists when the finger can be pointed at "whitey". Sorry for the delay in this reply but I have just returned from a long weekend in my old home county of Devon and a delightful stay in a small family-run hotel overlooking Lyme Bay -a million miles in some ways from modern London - my home for the past fifty-odd years.

Hi Crabb - welcome to WOL. I like your profile page poems - hope to see some of your work on the blog section soon. Have you passed this way before? I gather from Steve's comment that you have - if so, welcome back!
Apologies - I think in my welcome message to you I said it would be good if you could put some poems on your profile page - I was "round-robinning" a message to somebody who hadn't got any poems on their page. I can see that you have poems on your page :)

Hi Harry,
Thank you for commenting on my poem. Cacophony felt right for me at the time, I was laying in the sun in the garden and all these noises seemed to be growing and working together in a bid to shatter the peace! Ha ha Maybe I could have used a different word

Thanks for your kind and supportive comments regarding 'alien feelings' Francine - I do try to include provocative images to tie up with the words and this one fell into my lap - Harry thinks that Alien is cuddly - me, I think its rather disturbing :-)

Hey Harry - no problem with the comments regarding 'Alien feelings' - I did throw the picture in to try and muddy the waters to what is, basically, a love song with sci-fi imagery. So in a way I was asking for it :-) I do like to combine image with the poetry though - I suppose its my art background coming through - I do try to chose evocative pictures - and if you think that alien looks cuddly (or anything other than disturbing)I think you need to see someone about it :-)

Hi Katy
I hadn't seen Collier's Lilith. Impressive. And the original is just up the road in Southport - may take a look.
Coincidentally I've been re-reading George Macdonald's enigmatic 'Lilith'. The Victorians seem to have been fascinated by her. Have you run across it?

Hello, Izzy,
Thankyou for commenting on "The Rhymes They Are A-Changin'". It's only when I came to write this I realised what a clever and unusual rhyming scheme (aaabab) Dylan used. And harmonically, the penultimate line is a cliffhanger of the dominant chord, its 7th, its 6th and then the dominant again, all complimenting the single note melody.
Not just a hat-rack, that Dylan.

Hi Dave, my Lilith is a recurrent theme of the first wife of Adam in the bible and also the prostitute, and the vampire that runs through some of my work in this collection to try and make my work more accessible by using characterisation that a reader can identify with more easily. Who knows whether it actually works or not!! It is also very personal and I have collier's Lilith on the wall of my bedroom which inspires me as I write : ) thanks for your comments on my work, really appreciate them, Katy

Hi Dave - thanks for the comments on the sound/audio stuff I've been doing with a pal of mine here in St Ives. I think it might be my way forward. I seem to have stopped writing poems these days - and I miss it! But been writing some songs and now this more experimental stuff has come along. I'm wondering about putting it here on WOL. Might be fun - and bring me back into the fold!
Hope all is well with you! :)

Hi Harry - glad you like my praise poem :) I think it will be a good one to warm up an audience...
You are right about how we react differently - and there are just no female flashers. In fact I'd love to set loose an army of them on the London Underground, just as an experiment - all shapes, ages and sizes - I'd love to see the expressions on men's faces. I'm guessing that no-one would feel threatened or alarmed by it though...
Take care - hope to see you soon. x

Thanks for taking the trouble to comment on "The Racism One-Step". It was written in response to the idea that racism is a one-way street with one lot always the victim and one lot always the guilty party. I must mention of the penultimate verse in your poem Place De L'Eglise. It was beautifully done and would, imho, have been ideally suited to close your poem.
And now...I will leave you in silence....
