Hi John,

Always great to meet folks who appreciate haiku. For me, I think I just love the challenge: infuse as much poetic punch into 17 syllables. It's half torture, half fun lol ? Looking forward to reading your collection!

Thanks again Suki, and best wishes with your writing.

Hi Frances,

It's a small world when one can make contact within a city via an organisation on the other side of it!

Thanks for this information, which I will certainly follow up on. However, I'm off in a couple of weeks for a trip lasting six months, so my participation will be a little sparse at times. Luckily for me, my travels include plenty of time in the UK, so I plan to appear in open mics, etc. while I'm there.

HI Again Chris,
For my 50th birthday, I decided to give myself a degree in Creative Writing which I did at ECU. I was in the first intake of the new course and loved it.
Glen has been a mentor, now a valued friend and colleague, I'm know he'd be very pleased to 'catch up' with an ex student.
There's also the Fellowship of Australian Writers WA Branch in Cottesloe... not sure which suburb you live. Always good value and another place to read.
Voicebox is a good night and well organised, so I recommend them as a gentle introduction to reading to an audience.
Keep writing, I'll keep reading and best of luck with performance.
Cheers,
Sue

I really liked the down-to-earth-ed-ness and focus on what really matters when attraction strikes...
Particularly how you told us using the 'circle of storytelling'.
Great structure.

I have a moment this morning, so I've read your bio in detail. I like your attitude to writing poetry. My twin daughters are always saying: 'Mum, write for people just like us, who love your poems. Don't write for other poets.'

I got a 'smack' recently from one of my girls: 'You use too many big words! What the heck is a 'lacuna'. 'My reply: 'Look it up! No other word would do.'

But I really do make a huge effort to be simple. Not simple-minded, of course. But, hopefully, understood. I don't think clarity means 'writing down', just expressing myself as accurately as I possibly can, to convey an idea. There are always 'layers' of interpretation. I've never been good at just 'pure sound' in the abstract, but sound is a huge element in my choice of diction.

I'm gone.

Dear John!

Hi! Hope you are well and the writing is happening! Thanks for your kind words about my work. I like what you say about tone. Thanks. Word choice and tone are inseparable in my work (and in my head when I am writing) and I spend much time researching words and sometimes, particular subjects before I write, only for them to tumble out in ways I did not expect-- that's the muse part of my brain.

But I have my poetic idea-- the beanstalk first, in mind. This quite often includes a form. The time researching dictates how it grows.

World's End is a poem against the odds. I'm glad you like it. (I feel like hugging my son Joshua whenever I read it.) Sometimes, I feel like I am writing the same poem, over and over again.... I feel I have faith. I think, I do. See you soon, in Mold.

Love from, Suzanne X

Hi AM - having read your comment about Brexit on John
Coopey's home page (good to know we both enjoy his
champion chuckles), I felt obliged to point out the democracy in the superiority of "leave" votes even if the
verdict didn't meet expectations. I'm old enough to
remember the original machinations employed by Heath
and Co. (he was warned by a Tory minister that if the
British public knew what was intended they'd never vote
in favour and took the decision not to tell them!), and
the stealthy step by step tactics employed towards a
fait accompli once our MPs decided to go along. I've
watched for many years during which the high handed
behaviour of the Brussels entity saw our own prime
ministers being lectured on ignoring the opinion of the
public and become a "European" (e.g. a toady of their
master plan). This was not, and is not, the way we do things here and time has seen the wheel turn to pull
the mask of federal ambition and deceit aside. Now
they even justify seeking their own EU army, despite
the proven oversight of NATO - the true guardians of
Western security. It's all a very long way from a
"Common Market", the last occasion of a public vote
and even then the procedure was based essentially on trading between nations. It is no accident that all
that has followed has been between those already in
hock to the process of political integration - with any
reference to the peoples of the various nations
definitely OFF the CM/EEC/EC/EU (in sequence) agenda.
There had to be a reaction and it is perhaps fitting that
this small island nation should take the first step to
regain self-determination while the wider world watches with expectation and anticipation.
Cheers. MC.
