I've been writing poetry for 50+ years. Won some competitions (most recent 2023), placed in many more (most recent 2023). Had poems broadcast on BBC. Spent too long working and writing/hiding behind a bushel so came out in 2018 on the Open Mic circuit. Where had I been until then!! Read at lots of venues in and around Greater M/cr. A regular at Manchester Word Central. Also a member of Stockport WOL a fabulously talented small group which I am proud to be a member of. Since September 2022 I host and organise Glossop Open Mic nights. We have had some brilliant performers and equally brilliant guests who I can't thank enough.

Hope Resurfaces For the Girl at Greggs

I saw your forearm as you got my sausage roll from the hot counter and placed it in a brown bag. The long line of cuts from your wrist to your elbow a message, a plea, a cry for help, a hashtag to the like-minded of life blighted by self-harm. I would never have known from your warm smile, charming service that you suffered any mental anguish of some kind. Yet there they were; neither new nor old scars, but that bright red in between-ness where you wish they didn’t itch so much and the relief of cold water felt like the slow resurfacing of hope to bring you back to life, to manage, to cope.
