Seasons Greetings, AE,
Thanks for your thoughts on my "Red Wheelbarrow".
Liked the joke too. I used to think that monologue about an Irish brickie getting hoist up on a rope which had the wheelbarrow attached to the other end was hilarious when I was a kid. He fell, landed, the barrow fell, he went up, the barrow landed, spilled the bricks, barrow went up, he came down etc. (I suppose you had to be there!)

Thanks for your lovely comment on my poem Mike.

I'm not sure that I'm a fantastic poet, but I do like to write about themes that people can connect with and I'm glad the poem worked for you. I've left a more detailed response on the poem but in case you don't get chance to read it, just wanted to wish you a very happy and peaceful Christmas too.

Isobel xx

Hope the funeral went well Dorinda. Once you get past the tears they can be good occasions. I always remember my Uncle Ray's funeral. I left a sad tearful room to take my car home, then returned to a right old 'booze up' that uncle Ray would have loved . .
Whats Stockport like these days? 20 years ago and more I was a bus driver at Daw bank. Bet its all changed now!
Glad you enjoyed 'a friend of a friend'
Best wishes, Steve

Hi Pat - welcome to WOL. I like your poem - reminded me of my schooldays - loved biology up to O level then gave it up - and it seemed odd that some of my pals who'd gone on to do it for A levels were dissecting rats etc! While I was in the Art Room probably! Hope to see more of your poetry on here. If you put a poem on the blog section you'll find more people will see it and you may get some comments.

Hello Anthony,
Yes, I too have been in the dark about women's parts for a lifetime. Our Gert enters the bedroom fully clothed, the light goes off and miraculously she seems to have changed into an impenetrable body stocking when she gets in bed.
My knowledge of ladies underclothes therefore comes from hours spent in Primark fondling bras and panties.

You're right MC. I like work with a good verse and a good -I was going to say ryhme but thats not stictly true, I like a good rythym and something with a good lyrical quality, and yes, something thats uplifting rather than negative or downbeat is always appealing.

Hello Steve - I appreciate the kindness of your
comment on "Spare Us". I suppose it came to mind in response to a lot of the negative (to
me) positions taken in poetry nowadays - and
the approach to Christmas also seemed a good
time to be positive about the gift of life!
I note from the rhythm in your own words that
you enjoy the appeal of verse. We belong to
a club that may be somewhat out of fashion but
never fails to offer its members a window for
"seeing" and responding to the wider world.
All good wishes...
MC

Sorry Isobel there was no insult intended to Wigans hallowed seat of learning and all things Thomas...its that since I was knee height to a pair of your legs...The Tudor has been all ways been known, on the gigs circuit, affectionately of course, as the Bear Pit....

... times have changed, we all live in gentle times now....I'm off to watch the Manchester Derby.....Comeon you Reds!!!!!

Lots of love

Wigan isn't a bear pit - I'd dispute that accusation to the bitter end. We like a laugh - but on the whole I don't think you'd find a more respectful audience in the North West. I've been to plenty where poets give the impression they are listening because they are sat there quietly - but they must be intent on thinking about what they are about to perform next - cos they don't react to the bits they should react to. There are a lot of egos out there. I'd say that on the whole ALL poets are valued at the Tudor.

I can appreciate that being told to 'cheer up' can be a bit irksome when you aren't up to it though. Perhaps it's just a case of riding out the storm and knowing where to go when it's all over. Hope to see you at something soon anyway. xx

Thank you Isobel for your advice .... and valued comments

I will ensure that I 'Cheer Up', my previous poem, 'You Never Can Tell' a few days earlier had made poor Melanie Rees cry. So I must make amends although, 'Goin Down', well or otherwise, in Wigan's Bear Pit wasn't really what I had in mind.

love the bits an pieces of you xx
