Hi Steve - writing screenplays was/is a great
experience, not only the discipline of creating
a story but the translation of it into the
correct format...and being able to accept
rejection as "the norm". Certainly, I found
the best way was to send an intro. letter/
email first to invite any interest "without prejudice". My biggest achievement was to have
a script solicited by the VP of production at
Paramount Studios in Hollywood - almost unheard
of in a $$$$$ industry that is paranoid about
accusations of plagiarism and the possibility
of lawsuits!! It wasn't taken up but, almost
two years to the day, a film called "Hard Rain"
appeared which contained many similarities to
my own submission. That always intrigued me!!!
Now I'm having as much fun and satisfaction with songs and verse. It all helps keep the
mind active and busy in retirement.
Cheers - and good luck with your own material.
Never give up.

Hey Shevaughn,
Thanks for the comments about my poems. Had a look at your work and 'Time warp' and ‘Unfinished Business’ are my favourites. They are sort of like snapshots of poems and just waiting for more words to make them complete. I usually start off with a few lines then build on until I’ve said everything I want to say.
Having said that, there are all sorts of poems on this site some long, some medium, some short like yours. The good thing about short poems is they concentrate the reader on a clear thought. Anyway, lovely writing,
Best wishes,
Steve

HI Cynthia As ever I am bowled over by your encouragement. I'm a long time lapsed Catholic myself with a daughter who has converted to islam. I've also got a Kosovan branch in my wider family (That's where the blackbird sneaked in from!) so I have wide ranging ideas on what heaven might be. There's also a bit of Plato in there. When I was a kid I was convinced Heaven was a real place. I suppose my poem says it's all things to all men (And women of course!)I think your frequent kind comments on this site merit a copy of my current collection Work Horses. Just message me an address on this site and I'll send you one.

Hi Starfish
Thanks for taking the time to read and comment on 'Complicit'.
It was a long long time ago, but I'm pretty sure it was only £10.
I think I chose SA as it was the easiest place to emigrate to, and to get back from.
Sad eh?

Conflict
Laugh at your enemy
while he questions why
strike hard at vulnerability
defence lines opened up.
Forceful intent follows through
pretence no longer needed
the sword of laughter
shines steel of red.

Once again, thanks for looking in on my work. Your comments are much appreciated.
Looking at your bio I see you have completed some screenplays. I've done 3 myself, had them read by the BBC but not taken up. Others just come back in the post marked 'unread'. Poetry is so much simpler . .
Best wishes, Steve

Isobel, thank you so much. My Mother Says is barely 'just finished', a couple of days only. I don't often post so quickly. Your comments are excellent and are now incorporated. This has been a work of the heart, on my mind for a long time. I couldn't have asked for a better response. I did consider calling it 'The Tutoring Lesson', but opted for the circular closing to optimize the 'shock' which I felt when this 'story' actually occurred. I'm hoping more than one theme runs through this work.

thanks for the comment on 'Moving On' MC - I've been going through a very inward-looking phase recently - I'd better give myself a kick up the jacksie and start thinking more positively.
BTW - just seen a brilliant documentary on the Discovery Channel called 'inside the target car' which shows, once and for all, that there was only 1 shooter and that shooter was in the TBD - fantastic use of state of the art forensics to duplicate all possible conditions and trajectories - if you get a chance to see it it's a must for laying some of the myths out flat :-)

Hello Isobel and a Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Thank you for your lovely words on Lux.
Whilst I can't deny that the death of Mandela was the inspiration for this, it isn't specifically about himself.
I began to think about anyone who had inspired either myself or the world in general and using the metaphor of light etc etc.
I don't like to explain my work too much and often notice that readers/critiquers sometimes take the wrong meaning.
Anyway, thanks for your encouraging comments. I am finding it more and more difficult to be inspired these days. I'm still waiting for the lightening strike!
very best regards,
Graham

Hi Harry
Thank you for your note. Was it meant to go on Writing in Fire, though? I'm guessing cos you mentioned a deep breath being taken, and there is one at the start of that performance.
Have to say though, it wasn't for effect! We'd just legged it from the station to the Tudor, and no sooner had I got in there than I was due on stage, so was a bit out of puff :D
Anyway, thank you and I hope to see you in the new year :)
