Hahaha, I have many more I could have put in my samples, I have a whole facebook page for my pieces as well, I think I have around 150+ but I think there are only a few I would care enough about to put in my samples :P maybe I'll get around to sorting through those soon and posting them here

went great Nigel on Saturday. had a really good laugh, as it got wrapped quickly - i ended up doing two poems for them, hopefully both will go live next week. will be sharing them on here for that defo and will be mentioning it at stockport when i am there next.
also - i sent two poems over to Rachel last night, one of which needed some major ish rewriting from but i am hopeful at least one will be accepted. yeah, it was a really good workshop (I came away in total after redrafting last night - 9 poems).
hope you enjoyed your dizzy blonde (:
See you soon

You are more than welcome Wendy, and once again, apologies for the train wreck. You made a very fine point. I've been the woman who says no, and wasn't heard, so it's painfully close to my heart.
Take care, Laura.

Hi Ian - thanks for the response about "We are the Dead"
on my profile page. I didn't assume it was about you...
more an "Ode to Opportunities Missed When Alive" from
my own POV.
The sweep of those is such that most of us are content/
sentenced to settle for less, relishing simpler things.
When I mentioned "response" in my opening line, it was
meant that the extent of the comprehensive content
was something of a challenge in that wider context and
might obtain comment(s) accordingly...nothing more.
By the way - I like "Bard Company" as a title. It reminds
me of "Bad Company" - a Western from some years ago
about youth falling prey to the same.
Good to note your busy future performance schedule.
Cheers

MC - I think you may have fallen into the trap that one or two others did about 'We Are The Dead'. It wasn't written about me and it wasn't looking for a reaction - it was written about a friend who passed away recently - and I felt he hadn't fulfilled his amazing talents as a musician, partly because he let those other things take over his life. Thanks for commenting
Ian

Hi Cynthia
Pleased you enjoyed 'Penalised'
I'm currently living in Scotland, and quickly have become tired of hearing Nicola Sturgeon whingeing about everything.
Penalised is a sort of follow-up to 'Nic' (2 poems back)
Reduced quantity of writing anything close to sensible dictates my reduction in post, but I hope you are fit and well, and maybe we'll bump into each other at some future event.

weirdly enough i was reading 'the great event' in the book of longing yesterday. it contains one of my favourite lines in any poem (even though its a lyric i suppose).
'What a sigh of relief, as the senile robins become bright red again,'
just great!
(i assume you meant the cohen poem and not the beatles reference but either is acceptable!)
as for talented, its subjective!
have a great all hallows. im dressing my daughter up as a witch (we have a black kitten now) and sending her out for sweets while i watch the exorcist.

I cannot defend any reason why we go to war especially sending young men to death in Argentina, Margaret Thatcher had a lot to answer for the destruction and condition she left this country in the same as Cameron is doing at the moment, however on the face of it just one question - if we had the same choice to face again would we go in to the Falklands and do the same again? Of course we would. The bad state of war is sadly an ultimate draw.

Hello Tim - many thanks for the reference to the Wikipedia/IPCC entry relating to climate change.
Prevention is always better than cure and I hope that
cross border efforts to reduce any deleterious effects
on the climate will contribute to the future health of
the precious environment - who wouldn't?
The IPCC is a "scientific intergovernmental body" (under
the auspices of the UN) and has worked towards being
less likely to be interfered with politically (as was noted
with the Bush Administration in the USA a while back).
That has to be a good thing.
I noted the uniformity of the usage - from its members
and contributors - of words "like "deforestation" for
example. My mention of the report that MORE trees
than ever were now to be found on Earth goes towards
negating the effects of an oft-stated cause of global
warming - hurrah! There is also the recommendation
(from 2010) that the IPCC modify itself with the caveat
that it did not do its own research but relied upon
reports from lists of researchers prepared by governments and participating organisations.
Ultimately tho', it makes total sense for the world to
understand the harmful downside of human activity
on our planet and limit it at every opportunity, but
there also has to be an acknowledgement of the part
solar activity plays in this scenario. That is no minor
"supporting" part but a leading role in producing a
healthy profitable run of "Life on Earth".

Hi MC
Thanks for taking the time to comment on Penalised.
I am an Englishman living in Scotland, and got (and still getting) tired of listening (local TV) to the moans. Apart from anything else, Oz scored 5 tries to 3, which I've always believed was what rugby was supposed to be about.

Hi Ian, back again for further comment . The poem you wrote certainly engendered a lot of discussion. You have pointed out a very good point about singer songwriters getting paid but not a poet. This is obviously a right liberty. I am a muso but choose not to sing - as I find the average offering full of bile and remorse and self pity and all the negatives of life. Why pay to hear that? I find also a lot of poetry hard to listen to back to back in open mike because of distractions - soda siphons, etc.
If there is money to be made, yes hand it out. Personally I don't expect to make money but that's not an opinion that's a fact. Cheers for now!!

thanks for your, as usual, insightful comments on 'Don't Pay The Poets' MC - I think you're pretty close to the mark in what you say - and as I perform on pretty much the same circuit as Laura - let me tell you, it is prevalent to pay musicians, but not poets, even on the same bill. So these are cases where you've paid your dues, done the open mics and someone wants to put you on and present your words. Showing my hand here, but I never turn the gigs down - but the more it's given for free the more it's expected. Still, it is REALLY nice when you do get paid and certainly gives a lift to your self esteem
cheers
Ian

thanks for your kind and insightful comments on 'Don't Pay The Poets' Ray - very interesting points you make - and I would never expect a poet to be paid for an open mic spot - because, generally, they are performances with/between peers - so all equal. Where the problem lies is in landlords and promoters putting events on where some of the performers get paid - but rarely the poet - even though they put just as much into the performance. As an example - if I use the same words and put a guitar around my neck, I'm likely to get paid. If I just use the words it's, somehow, different. An interesting topic, really enjoyed reading yours (and everyone's) take on it
cheers
Ian

thanks for your kind and insightful comments on 'Don't Pay The Poets' John - my comments weren't directed at Open Micers - more so at Landlords and Promoters who throw poets onto a bill with other acts and pay everyone BUT the poets because, as Laura comments, they don't hold the same 'value' even thought hey are entertaining just the same. I get quite a few odd payments here and there and it's always nice to be recognised as 'valuable'. None of us do it for the money - but put a guitar around my neck and let me use the same words and - hey presto - the money appears.
On another note - I was hoping to be at Sale this mon th to see Gerry.P - unfortunately Steve Earle decided to play Manchester on the same night - but I'll be back (that's not a threat)
