Paul, I have read a number of your poems all of which I have thoroughly enjoyed in both content and style. In particular I like ¨Nostalgia¨. as it is highly evocative. I have friends who own a four hundred year old home and their kitchen table came immediately to mind. You are the author of its description. Thank you. Keith

Aishah, Thank you for some eloquent and powerful verse which speaks of personal pain, frustration, despair and is also a voice for many others who share this predicament. You are skilled as a poet. I have enjoyed enormously each and every poem, for I have read them all. It would be hard to select one but I think ¨Perspective¨spoke to me as it something which troubles my conscience. Thank you again. Please write more, lots more. Keith

Hi, Keith. Thanks so much, for the comments on my profile and the two pieces. I've always found writing such descriptions somewhat difficult--especially when prompted for anything other than dry biographical facts--so it's good to know that it connects in some way with a reader.
I've been wending through your writing and am finding a common thread of what seems an observant compassionate nature. I will definitely be reading more.
Thanks again and keep posting.

well 'Hello You' and thanks for the lovely comment on my profile poem. Two clear weeks for catching up sounds a luxury to envy. Please feel free to dig and delve and comment if you wish Cynthia. My library door is always open.
I know what you mean about profile pics. Travandy's red typewriter is up at the top, iconic as a London bus. I don't recall the chap with the green eye but Suki's Polaroid pic is sheer pop art poetry. Mine changes occasionally with my mood. If I'm feeling particularly open you might get the full face but when I start mentally retreating it disappears to maybe just a cutout birdie. I seem to be halfway between at present - an equilibrium state perhaps. I quite like this one with the specs in an early Elvis Costello kind of way but that's just me being self-indulgent and laughing at my own jokes!
All the best to you Ms Aperitif.
Colin

Hello Brian,
I have read most of the poems you have submitted to this site and some over again. You are very talented indeed and I think you need to know it. Your writing skills, ability to express yourself and the style with which you write has a unique quality. Please write more and more. I have enjoyed and in some cases learned something from your words. Thanks. Keith

Dyphrent, welcome to WOL. And LOOK! A first poem chosen as Poem of the Week. Congratulations! That's a record, I think, and a real honour.
The poem following your 'bio' is very intense with some fine ideas. I really like 'presuppositions, prejudices and pride' an excellently alliterated list.
I take it that you feel 'possessed' by poetry. I think that most of us contributing poems here, and reading other works on site, know exactly what you mean. It's a great common denominator that ties us all together.
May we know where you live?

Hello everyone! I've had a few messages re World Poetry Day/schools comps, etc. I'm away 20-24 March, and this is possibly a little late in the day, but if there is anything I can contribute towards either, do let me know - thanks!

Hi, Jerry,
Welcome to WOL.
You have certainly started an interesting topic, and such an important one for new writers, (and experienced ones also.)
The discussion has gone into many arenas associated with writing, my insert included. Way beyond what I think you intended.
If the photo is actually you, and I hope it is, you look very young. So -write whatever you want, about anything you want, however you want. Just write, and write and write -about everything, for yourself. Keep a notebook. If it's on computer, be sure to copy to a thumb-drive so that you never lose your ideas.
Write in whatever language is most comfortable to you, not for the sake of 'being clever'. Empathy (big word) is probably the most important idea in writing poetry. Because, eventually, you will be writing to connect with other persons. It is inevitable.
And read, Jerry, if it's possible. And speak your own words out loud, to find best rhythm and the 'best word' to use from your personal stock of vocabulary. This is really important because poetry is truly meant to be passed on by speaking.
Have fun. Have FUN!
Cynthia

Hi Keith ~ Thank you for comments on my poems and photos. That's very kind of you and much appreciated. I'm still writing but don't post much any more because publication effects competition entries. I'm going to have a look through your contributions to the site this evening. Very best wishes - Jonnie

Jonnie, It was only a few days ago that I joined Word Out Loud and came across your work. I loved every line, roared with laughter only to be caught by the truth. I also enjoyed looking at all the photos. I hope to read more of your poetry and perhaps one day have the privilege of meeting you. Many thanks for brightening up my day. Keith

Good Afternoon Eugene, or at least it is here in the Canary Islands where I live. Your biography caught my eye when I read the words Escondido, California. I was in that part of the world in the 1980´s at University near San Diego. I took my driving test in Escondido.
I am interested to hear of your short stories. So far I have only dabbled with poetry but am tempted to enter the world of stories soon. Katherine Mansfield is a favourite of mine and wrote using that particular genre. I have not read any of your work. Is it available online?
Kind regards
Keith
