Late November Morning

There’s patches of ice on the lake
in the distance snow on the ground
In the black, icy cold water
ducks, swans and geese swimming around

On a late November morning
at the dawn of a brand new day
Autumn passes the baton to Winter
in the seasons relay

Omicron

Alpha first found in the UK
Beta in South Africa
Gamma emerged from Brazil
Delta came out of India

Move over all the above
there’s a new variant in town
The WHO named it Omicron
it brings fear of a new lockdown

Mask wearing rules are updated
more travel tests to be done
As we question and wonder
can the Covid battle be won

Spectacular Sunset

The November sun slowly sinks
behind the hills snowy and white
Blue sky turns as gold as honey
creating this breathtaking sight

A warm cast spreads over the land
reflecting on the frosty snow
The spectacular sunset last night
gifts us quite a dazzling show

Snowy Walk

What a difference a day makes
Storm Arwen has been and gone
Some folk are still without power
and there’s been much damage done

Today is calm, still and quiet
we walk in sprinkles of snow
Wrapped up in coats, hats and gloves
our chilly faces aglow

The country lanes slowly turn white
icy puddles in deep freeze
We see the devastating sights
of many taken down trees

We return to ...

Storm Arwen

Thanks to storm Arwen
we rise from a sleepless night
The sound of the howling wind
gave us quite a fright

The garden is a war zone
scattered broken pots
The BBQ blown over
lights tangled into knots

Wicker furniture chaos
on the patio
Overturned wooden benches
smashed up gazebo

Thanks to storm Arwen
we have one good thing to say
Those fierce stormy winds
blew all the Autum...

Footprints

Overnight the storm named Arwen
has transformed our outside world
We awake to snow this morning
as a wintry dreamscape unfurled

Trails of foxes and badgers
give away the secrets of the night
Tell tale footprints and tracks crisscross
the deep snowy carpet of white

Epic Sunrise

A clear frosty morning
gifts us this epic sunrise
fields filled with grazing sheep
under pale blue cloudless skies

I stop to say hello
before I get on my way
If they could talk,  I wonder
just what would those sheep say

Top Of The Rock

Today we are in Gibraltar
otherwise known as the rock
We headed into the small town
a short walk from the cruise port dock

We walked through the British Main Street
along to the cable car stop
It only took us around six minutes
until we reached the top

Once up there you can see for miles
there’s a glass walkway for the brave
Also there are Barbary macaques
with which I had a cl...

Cartagena

A short time in Cartagena
the sun shone bright today
The captain sounds the horn
as we start our sail away

We pass by small boats and ships
and castles on hills up high
The port slowly fades from sight
there’s not a cloud in the sky

The sun shimmers on the sea
like a light leading the way
A party atmosphere on deck
as the band begin to play

Valencia

A treat to spend my birthday
in Valencia city
Majestic, stylish, vibrant
chic, elegant and pretty

From the old city district
to futuristic design
Roman times to modern day
grand architecture so fine

In the parks and gardens
fruitful palm and orange trees grow
Old, giant fig trees
like a scene from a fairytale show

The stunning central market
ornate, colourful and bright

Palma

Sunday morning in Palma
it’s quiet around the town
Many shops are closed today
their graffitied shutters down

We walk along the sea front
pass the many boats and yachts
Down to the grand Cathedral
where we take a few snapshots

We stop for cafe con leche
in a quaint outside cafe
A break to plot our route
and plan the rest of the day

We head up to the castle
that dominate...

Ancient and modern buildings
theatres, museums and halls
Whimsical Gaudi creations
ancient Roman city walls

Cathedrals and monuments
grand architectural structures
Green parks alongside smart plazas
famed works of art and sculptures

Busy, wide streets full of traffic

Speeding Across The Sky

Sunrise high above the clouds
on our morning flight today
A beautiful sight to see
as we get safely under way

A foaming sea of fluffy clouds
meets the molten lava glow
Rainbow hues blend into bright blue
make for a magical show

The darkness of night fades quickly
soon the sun is bright and high
The horizon ever changing
as we speed across the sky

Good causes for both young and old
grateful to receive every penny

Tangled Web

Sunrise peeks through a tangled web
of skeleton branches on trees
Created by the autumn wind
blowing away the waning leaves

The sky a shade of creamy pink
mixed with hues of purple and gold
The wild birds flurry overhead
singing their stories to be told

Fiery Hues

Gorgeous skies over Yorkshire
as the Autumn sun rose yesterday
A palette full of drama
nature’s artistry on full display

An inferno of colour
oranges, reds, pinks, purples and blues
The land black as burnt embers
under a blaze of fiery hues

Just A Simple Drawing

Just a simple drawing
two dogs sat side by side
One dog is still alive
the other sadly died

Just seven words spoken
a chat between these two
The one here on earth says
“they still talk about you”

“I know” says the angel dog
gazing over rainbow skies
This simple drawing with seven words
brought tears to my eyes

Autumn Mood

Bedgraggled bare boned trees
backdropped by the sky of palest blue
Decaying foliage lies thick and deep
heavy with morning dew

Limp leaves flutter down one by one
perished and scattered around
Glory days well behind them now
they lie rotting on the ground

Wild birds feed on bugs and worms
the only sign of life I see
The cold November air is still
yet seems to bore right through ...

Remembrance Day

We will never forget them
their bravery and sacrifice they made
We show our respect today
across the country poppy wreaths are laid

We will never forget them
as we stand for two minutes in silence
We show our respect today
on this national day of remembrance

We will never forget them
each and every one we remember
This eleventh hour, eleventh day
eleventh month of November

slowly rising over the lake

Ducks and swans prepare for the day

wild birds singing the day awake

Kaleidoscopic Skies

Yesterday mornings spectacle
glorious and devine sunrise
I stopped to capture the image
and soak up this feast for my eyes

Kaleidoscopic shifting clouds
shapes and colours rearranging
Mesmerising molten rose gold
constantly moving and changing

Bare Trees

A stunning morning sunrise
in colourful hues of rose gold
The warming glow from the sun
melting away the chill and cold

Bare trees stand like skeletons
silhouettes rising from the ground
Stripped of all their Autumn leaves
which now lie scattered all around

Old Friends

A perfect Autumn pick me up
on a wet and windy weekend
a long overdue lunch date
catching up with an old friend

We met each other at school
who could have known back in the day
that forty four years later
we would still be meeting up this way

We spent a lovely afternoon
enjoying lunch and a long chat
the time passed by quickly
as we reminisced about this and that

It’s been f...

Autumn Woodland

A stroll through an Autumn woodland
leaves like confetti, fluttering down
Laying a deep, crispy carpet
hues of red, orange, yellow and brown

A familiar crunch underfoot
as I tread on the hidden pathway
The soundtrack to my morning walk
the brook gently babbling away

Wisps Of Smoke

Sunrise on an Autumn day
morning air is crisp and clear
Nature slowly comes to life
my footsteps is all I hear

The sun ever more distant
it feels colder day by day
My breath is like a dragon
wisps of smoke fading away

today, the fourth of November
Fifty days till Christmas Eve
still a long way off December

Christmas Ads seem to appear
earlier every year
Soon we will be watching them
as we ring in the New Year

Today I plea once more
please keep Christmas in December
There’s no need for us to see
Christmas Ads in November

We find it left in mouse traps

We visit the local church
