Old Friends

A perfect Autumn pick me up
on a wet and windy weekend
a long overdue lunch date
catching up with an old friend

We met each other at school
who could have known back in the day
that forty four years later
we would still be meeting up this way

We spent a lovely afternoon
enjoying lunch and a long chat
the time passed by quickly
as we reminisced about this and that

It’s been five years since we last met
it may well have been yesterday
whenever we meet up
it’s like we have never been away

I can’t help but think to myself
how very lucky we are
to share a lifelong friendship
no matter how near or how far

We may look and feel a bit older
than we did all those years ago
but when we get together
we are those teenagers we used to know

Very good, Julie. It makes me regret that I have lost touch with my school friends.

Comforting - like a cup of hot cocoa. Friendships that stand the
test of time are to be treasured.
