Hot and humid

Stretching out

Into a dog day afternoon

 

The boy was young

Young and stupid

Stretching out

Beneath the furnace sun

 

The tarn was cold

Cold and ruthless

Stretching out

Along the sunny banks

 

The swim was exhilarating

Exhilarating and cooling

Stretching out

And heading for the shore
