Hi Dave thanks for your kind email; I will respond shortly. Stay with us (not sure what has happened as I've not been reading much on here lately)....criticism is good - we are each other's readership for now and it helps build our poems with clearer direction. Of course, we choose to consider or ignore it- all depends on what you want. If you want to be published, then do take it on board, well most of it. It does hurt at first (lol) but we do have to develop an extra skin :-)
keepwriting , keep posting.
I am touched by the fact that you hold me in such high regard. Thank you.

Please don't retire Dave - it is a great site once you learn to shrug off certain criticism. There are some great personalities on here and you can have fun. I find it very stimulating - perhaps that depends on how much you are in need of that - other areas of my life can be a bit tedious at times ! Lol - if I see you on line next time I will try to chat. I never saw Whats it all about as particularly offensive but it appears otherwise - you are always on a sticky wicket with religion I guess...

Thanks for your comment Anthony. I see 'What's It All About' more as social comment than political poetry. If it is political then it is very soft political. The message is the need for equality, mutual respect, inclusion, compassion and dare I say it, the L word....I'm not sure if there is a political party out there capable of giving it us - that comes from within - if only you could extract it and dish it out like a vaccine - then we'd be living in paradise.

Hi Barrie,
thanks for your recent comment on my poem Daphne Demure. Yes i do seem to include some fraudian phrases in lots of my work. I think it must be something i did in a past life and it's coming out in this one too. :-)
Yes i do realize it was your little joke.

Just been reading your work - Two Cats is just wonderful and such fun! Especially the end, really made me laugh:
My cats have been ill
White coat investigators
Nothing found… £100
I can relate to that! Happened to my cat recently (except it was £180!)

Winston, thanks for your comment on The Parting. You solved one problem for me absolutely: I have dithered endlessly over 'my heartbeats measure the night' or 'my heartbeat measures the night'; I have spoken the line, sung the line, nearly dreamed the line ... and you're right ... you read what it should be. Thanks

thank you Gus, for your kind comments on Blackwater. I was going to come down for the next WOL but Winston told me it isn't on in july. The poetry in the woods thing looks good on Saturday but is it going to rain i wonder? I was hoping to see you at the last WOL night i went to, April i think it was. I was carrying with me a small thing i made for you but it returned back up north again and now it sits on my desk. it will travel with me by train in August for the next meeting unless you are off travelling the world that month. thanks again, deb x

...howdo steve..many thanks for the comments on 'my father'..it was written in couplets, all ending on different words to those seen here. I'd copied it from 'word' and every time I tried to paste it into the 'blog' area the lines came out 'double spaced', in the end I moved all the lines about until they were more compact, pressed all the buttons and it suddenly 'pasted' in as you see it..so I left it alone !!..nevertheless it was very astute of you to realise it doesn't look right....I will take in your ideas, not having aired my poems much until now...thanks...chris.

..hello Gus...or is it Sherlock ?...a few years ago I spent time researching the family tree and came across gr.gr.gr. grandparents who came from Cork and settled in Kelsall in 1835..the more I found out, the more poems I began to write about them, in this extract they're ghosts. Is writing style in the 'genes' do you think...very odd...although I'm pleased you spotted something. (I was born in Lytham)...cheers.. chris...(if you click on 'myspace' link at the top the first song 'Rosanna' is about them).

Hi Winston,
'spragged to the floor' means to stretch the fabric to its limits and pin it down.
Sprags in real terms are the metal hooks used to pin tents to the ground for anchorage.
Thowt tha wud 'ave known that, you bein' a Yorkshire lad 'n all. :-)

Thank You so much Winston for your in depth critique of my poem 'Love Me'.
I am amazed how long it takes me to write poetry by comparison to some other poets on this site, they seem to be so prolific... it's very intimidating ...one after the other.. but I hope to have another ready soon. Meanwhile many thanks once again.
