Hi Laura, 'Beano' many thanks for the kind words. I never actually met Ian Drury but if he is the one I think you mean well rather a sad ending. BTW, I haven't been to Thanet either. That was just a name that came to me. Just been checking out some of your poetry links, gosh impressive. Glad you are still posting. x

Thanks for the link – that poem has a reference to the Beatles also. My education continues. As for the expression "Bag of Cats", I liked it enough to write a 'poem' about it.

Hi Starfish Thanks for the kind comments on Annus MIrabilis. Glad you spoted the Larkin connection. I did it on purpose. Both poems are about 1963 and start of with a Beatles reference and 'problems' with girls. Paul Farley has also done a gone one about that year, but he focuses on the death of Sylvia PLath. If you want o try to find it, it's called 1th February, 1963 and is a collection Called THe Ice Age.

Hi Cate. Fortunately I tend to finish in one hit - I guess it shows . . . I do tidy afterwards of course. But for you to be left with an unfinished entry, that is cruel!
I suppose I should be checking the comp. I wonder if I know how?

Isobel, I got my email back as DaemonMail.
It's been a hectic week. We are both coming, and we are really looking forward to the occasion, both as a visit with you and a chance to share poetry at the Tudor.
We are aiming for 3:30-4:00 p.m., schedules permitting. Let us know if this is convenient. We'll call from Victoria Station to clue you right in, so that there's no hanging about.
How do I access you via email privately?

thanks again Harry - 'eclipse' sounds a bit to obvious - I was hoping 'trial & tribulation' might get a few folk scrambling for a dictionary or Wiki. This was another one I adapted from a short story I've written - and boy is THAT dark - way too much detail to put into a poem unfortunately.
I do enjoy it when you start to autopsy my stuff - I always think when I'm hitting 'post' - 'I wonder if Harry's going to get to the bottom of this one?' I suspect we're currently in an honourable 'score draw' position :-)
cheers again
Ian

sounds good MC (the Kennedy stuff) I'd spotted 3 programs on Kennedy this week - 2 are on terrestrial but the National Geo channel is doing a dramatized documentary on it tomorrow night @ 9pm also - so the old Sky+ is going to be taking more hammer. I also got a really good magazine with an interesting feature on JFK in general and the assassination in particular - it was a regular monthly one called something like 'History' well worth a look at if you're in WM Smiths.
Glad you liked 'A Step Towards Winter' I've also written a bookend piece called 'Step Towards Summer' which is in my new poetry collection and also a CD of music I'm releasing in the next couple of weeks - I'll be posting on Soundcloud when we finish mixing - I know you're into your music/song writing - I'm also a massive fan of Johnny Cash - watch this space as I'm working on a poem about him and will post on WOL soon
cheers
Ian

Hi Nigel: "The Road" - a sequel - - -
You did
Said the marchers
'Cause you're first
Said he
It's a curse
Being first
I will walk behind thee
Therefore my walk will be
Quite indescribably
More relaxed, leisurely...
(with apologies from me, D)!...

Forgot to mention. It starts at 8 or thereabouts. Some poets get there earlier so they can socialise and that might not be a bad idea as there will be plenty of people you'll want to speak to.
Most people do a couple of poems or around 5 mins - but it depends on the length of the poem and on how many poets turn up. We have the occasional quiet night, like everywhere else, but of late it's been just about right - not too many, not too few.I'm sure there'll be a bit of leeway for someone who's travelled and made an effort to visit us.
Our compere for the night is Dave Carr so it should be good.
xx

Isobel, Stanley and I cased the joint last week, finding our way from Victoria Station to Wigan Wallgate. We finally found the Tudor after much munching around, only to discover we could have thrown a stone so far from the Station entrance.
I need some details, like starting time, and, especially, time allowed for performance.
What would be the chance of arriving late afternoon and having a pickup at the Wigan station? Either way, I am coming. And Stan will make sure I get there safely and timely. Depending on how easy it is for you to 'put me up', he will also stay for the evening and then escort me home again that night.

re: 'trial & tribulation'
you've nailed it in one mate - and you should be very worried to be so far inside my head
:-) it wasn't this eclipse, it was one a few years ago - and I wrote the original piece as a short story - which was far more disturbing (particularly the 'trial' aspect which isn't really covered in this shorter version.)
For someone, like myself, who isn't a 'believer' revelations is a bloody great source-work for ideas - I guess it all has to do with that enforced catholic upbringing - some of that indoctrination shit had to stick somewhere LOL

Thanks for commenting on my poem. I'm considering the 'ravaged' suggestion. I did have ravaged initially, but then I thought ravished is a signal to the past, that he hasn't always been old and unattractive and that once he was indeed ravished.
