Dunes...

And then the sand flowed like the tide

Shifting the land at the wave edge of the sea

A vast striated plane of drifting whirling grains:

Aged dunes lost to the wail will of the wind.

As we walked close by the sea suck and ripple

The bound beach rose and swallowed our grounded feet

We seemed to be free floating sand cloud high

In the sandsmoke drifts rushing to their...

Life by Numbers

Life by Numbers

1. My father walks the sea-edge and is young, as a child is young.

2. My father's voice is hardwood, and timpan drums.

7. My father's eyes are tired.

16. The cyclone clouds hang swollen sheets above.

19. I am afraid.

20. I shall put fear at the bottom of depths the deep blue made.

25. My brothers' arms surround me.

31. We sit on the brim of laught...

Host

Host

Grey silhouette of screeching gull

soars startled into flight;

First glitter on a foreign shore,

Behold the coming night.

Old fisherman alone, cocooned,

baring weathered flesh;

Rests his line on steady frame,

Sits picking at his net.

The distant hills grow dim, then dark,

Lie silently to rest;

Their form against the setting sun

a man’s recumbent b...

MAN:          In so short a time

I saw a future

Flow

Created

From the formless waters

Born

From the darkness

The way begins

All words are water

       I gave abundance!

My words flow from the mountain top

My words give succour to the land

My words are the waters of the sea

The Peaceful Beach

There's nothing that can beat
Walking along the beach
With the waves hitting your feet
In the scorching heat

Miles of soft, golden sand
I run some through my hand
Waves splashing against the shore
Is a sound that I adore

Feeling the warm breeze
Puts me at such ease
I tilt my head up towards the sun and smile
And close my eyes for a while

This beach is my paradise
Its tranquility...

The power of a place

Let the sound of the seas swell wash away the pain

Let the whoosh and crush of pebbles float away the strain

Morning light shimmering across flat sparkling sea

Morning swimmers lightly shivering as they rush to shore

Boys and girls peddle, skate and scoot by

Direction not known but heading for fun

Happy voices bouncing all around

Only early but excitement abounds

New vistas...

Lost

And then

            at my source

I was lost to your ocean.

Flowing... your endless bounty stole my direction

            your depths embraced

            your corals welcomed my load

I drowned in your currents.

My hands caressed

your waves

My body plumbed

your deepest sounds

Your pools

received

Your tides were constant

Ocean

Restless: my body is your ocean; my limbs the currents of the sea

You float on my waves - sink only a little

I hold your sacred vessel safe - we become one:

A perfect balance of forces

Your body runs its course through my being

I feel you cleave my waves

I know you as we sink

Black waters closing

And I know you as we rise

I hold you to float above the tide as we burst th...

Tears

I feel like I am choking,

drowning in my unspilt tears.

But the dams don't yet break even though the buoy in my throat is rising with the sea

and the canal that is my throat, tightens.

No matter how hard my mind steers the sails away from the emotional storm within,

The crashing seas cannot help but spill over the edge of the boat.

My tears are smooth like the PVC ma...

On Scarborough Beach

This beach experience has nothing to do with Yorkshire, except its name!  And yes, it does get that hot.

On Scarborough Beach

flash dry fades

in the turn of the world,

a shield of furnace flame

    as callous sears

        your flickering city

where dance of sea-glint,

        fixed near

and cannily coast-wise

Sailing an Inland Sea

This poem is for all those still searching for home.

Sailing an Inland Sea

A stark white galley, sail aloft,

Knifes liquid mirrors, softly heaving,

Its pattering stem a story-teller

For fishers caught

On idle frontiers, poised

Between vaults of washed cerulean.

Its Master sighs to distant shores, yearning

For Phoenicia's Thalassa; a place of purple -

Turn Of The Tide

Low ripples creep in eager waves,

Reclaiming grains of wind-blown sand,

To lay them flat within the damp, cemented matrix,

By degree, each one,

In exposed space,

Is over-run,

Again with water weight,

Where fine currents caress and roll,

The grains that had once been free.

The Extent Of The Tide

And so I walked the full extent of the tide,

To where once-fronds of bladder wrack lie,

Fallen branches where air balloons find their specific gravity awry,

A rippling sandscape sculpt by rolling water,

Carpeted with greening algal strands plumose in the quiescent remaining pools,

Seagulls at the edge,

Scouring newly exposed beach,

Beneath the dark-faced island.

Before The Tide

Bright sunshine falls across grass fountains,

Sparkling against the dark green sod,

And dune crakes chorus their fishwife chatter,

Conversation with talking but no listening,

Sweet trill and chaff and coarse, guttural croak,

Pervades the furrowed dunes,

Whilst sea falls in wavelets upon the shore,

At pre-turn flat sea,

Beneath the dark faced island.
